Holiday Flyer- Sacramento Bike Kitchen 8/12/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode VPS Mic

So I met John Conley in 1985. I was attending Roseville High School. I was wearing a black T-shirt with the sleeves cut off and a Manowar backpatch sewed on the back (note: NEVER do this. Your back sweats like a mother and you are miserable all day). He approached me to say hello (I mean who DOESN’T want to say hi to the freak with a sweaty back) and a 30+ year friendship started. John & I (and bassist Mike Yoas) were all in a band in 1987- it was John & my first band ever. Fast forward to yesterday- It’s so cool to see John and Katie resurrect the band that was dormant for 15 years, but was their most popular. They released multiple albums, played sxsw and developed a loyal following. Hell, one fan from back then drove from L.A. on his honeymoon weekend to see the show. (Janice Tang please note). Anyway, great show. Mike did an excellent job on bass. He told me before the show that it had been so long, that it was like learning cover songs! Flawless set. John and Katie harmonized beautifully. Sorry. I had a full can of monster zero today. I’ll shut up now.

The Queers- Blue Lamp, Sacramento Ca. 8/10/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode VPS Mic

The queers have been to Sac 3 times over the past year and a half, and this was BY FAR the best show I have seen. The stage volume of the other shows was so loud that the P.A. could not compete and it all sounded like a garbled, mushy mess. Well AJ worked his magic and got them to turn down a bit, and wow! Great set, great sound and people going crazy during the show. Sorry about this being in 3 pieces. I was busy blabbing with Jaz Brown between sets and forgot to change my battery.. so I had to do it mid-set.

The Ataris- Blue Lamp, Sacramento Ca. 8/10/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode VPS Mic

Since the news today is depressing, I’ll share some uplifting stuff. This sold-out show was SO MUCH FUN. The crowd was totally into both bands that I saw, but especially The Ataris. I can’t recall seeing a crowd so enthusiastic about a show here in sac. Not only that, but the band was super nice. They gave me a CD for filming. I usually try to buy merch from the bands, but I had no cash… very nice and down to earth folks. Go see them! The lighting was very bright from behind the band, so the crowd is well lit, but the band is not well lit from the front. Oh well, it still looks ok. Thanks to Gabi and Ben for continuing to bring great shows to town.
