Yeastie Girlz- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 3/2/90 xfer f/1st gen soundboard tape Lookout records

Can you believe that the Mentors played Gilman? The self proclaimed pioneers of “R*pe Rock” played the No Sexism venue. Who the heck booked this? If anyone has any insight into the membership meetings around this one, I would love to hear that story. Full disclosure- I am a former board member of Gilman and I love the place. Just taking a jab.

At least they booked the perfect opening act- The Yeastie Girlz! Here is about 6 minutes of their opening set, courtesy of Robert Eggplant’s collection. Thanks Robert!

Thanks to Wayne Vanderkuil for helping find a flyer for this one.

Yeastie Girlz- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 5/20/88 xfer from 8mm master tape incomplete

This “On This Date in History” project is helping me realize how many of my own tapes are not posted yet.. like this one. I filmed Fugazi’s first appearance at Gilman on this date in 1988. I need to do a lossless transfer and synch that one with the board tape. This one was nice and short and good for today. It could probably use a new transfer and enhancement as well, I’ll get to it someday.
Man, Gilman was packed that day. I filmed both sets while standing on a folding chair in the middle of the crowd. That’s why you get the shaky camera work. I only shot about 7 minutes of the set. I was still nervous about battery dying after the great Operation Ivy debacle 2 weeks prior.

Yeastie Girls- Julia Morgan Theater, Berkeley Ca 4/2/88 xfer from soundboard cassette

Today seems like a good day to post a Yeastie Girls show. By the way, I have heard that there is a planned gathering at 5pm at 501 I street in Sacramento today, but I can’t find the post that mentions it now. Maybe this post will get muted as well.
Anyway, this one is unusual in a couple of ways- first, I don’t know where the heck it came from. Most of my other YG shows came from Chris Dodge or Radley, but this one seems to have come later on, from a trader back east. Second, YG are playing a venue that usually put on plays and performances. Pretty cool to have them perform there.

Yeastie Girlz- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 3/18/88 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape Lookout Records

Video collections post from Chris Eng’s collection today. I sent Chris a picture of the VHS tape and we were PM’ing and the taper’s name just popped out- Russ Bree is the likely filmer of that Stikky from last week and this one. Thanks Russ and Chris!

This is probably the best quality YG video I have seen so far. Long set for them as well.
