I thought I wouldn’t have a chance in finding a flyer for this show but a google search helped me figure out that this set was an opening slot for Fugazi. Interesting choice for an opener, I wonder how they went over. They are more of a pop/rock band than indie/punk.
Jason Ross’ recording sounded pretty decent. It was clear with some distortion in one frequency band which I EQ’d out. Not bad.

It’s a laaaate collections post today. This was one of the more physically demanding days in a while. Thanks to Bill and Cory for all the help. What a day. One good thing about it was that Jason Ross had all day to reply to my questions about this tape from his collection: “my copy is first generation. It was taped by the co-owner of a used record store that I worked at an Appleton. His name was Stan Erickson. He would have taped that with Awai an deck, the same model I used for a Rawlins Band and some others. Not sure of the generation. Remember around that time it retailed for about $129 at Best buy. I’m sure if I saw a picture of it, I’d recognize the model.” I think I know the model – anonymous used it for his early tapes as well.
The 5 second space of nothing at the start of this one is intentional, so we could avoid the F Bomb within the first 8 seconds of the video. YT gets excited when Early F-Bombs drop
There was some high end distortion that I was able to EQ out of there. Sounds pretty decent now.

It’s time for this week’s Patreon Voter’s choice! As usual, they picked out a gem. This seems to be a local TV production, albeit 1 camera with raw soundboard audio. I don’t recall ever realizing that- really cool!
I got this in a one-off trade from someone in Wisconsin. Can’t remember their name.

Here’s a tape that jumped out at my from Jason Ross’ collection. I am a big DI fan, so I figured I would pop this one in and listen while working. It is a decent audience recording done with an Aiwa HS-J15 and a custom mic. It sounds a bit like a Sony Pro Walkman D3 recording. I caught DI in June of this year and they were playing a very similar set.

Late collections post today, this one from Jason Ross’ collection. I have been posting a lot of stuff from Jason’s collection lately. This one is something he probably got from the taper, since he lived in Green Bay shortly after this show took place. The recording was a bit harsh with some high end distortion, so I EQ’d most of it out while still keeping most of what;s important in the mix.

Here is the correct info for today’s post. When I don’t have enough time to prep these posts, I make mistakes. Thanks to TM Doug for shooting me a mail right away to let me know. I found this image online and it made me laugh. It was outside the venue on the day of this show, but it’s exactly how I remember the scene when we hung out backstage in April (Crest Thtr) and August (Club Can’t Tell) of 1985. Nice guys and a party atmosphere.
