7 Seconds- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 7/27/86 xfer from low gen soundboard cassette tape rebalanced

I have a confession- I don’t listen to 100% of every show I post. It depends on how busy I am and how good the performance is. I rarely have the time to listen to an entire show… but this one was different. I love this era of 7 Seconds- New Wind had just come out (sounds like it was in transit to record stores at the time) and the band played a bunch of new material from it. Great stuff- I’ve listened to it twice so far.
The board mix was light on guitar, so I rebalanced it a bit with Izotope, and the tape was clean enough for the rebalance to work. The mix fluctuates for the first 5-10min, then locks in for the rest of the set.
Huge thanks to James R Edmonds for sending this one to be digitized. I think he has one other Farm sbd from 1985 that I am dying to hear as well.

Christ on Parade- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 5/24/86 xfer from master Soundboard Audio tape remixed

I am checking the view stats for Sac Music Archive and I have to say, not enough people are checking out these Christ on Parade shows. I’ll just keep posting them until you see the light, or one of them gets at least 100 views…

This is an xfer from Eric Mcintire’s master tape of this show. I didn’t know (or remember) that this was a master tape until he reminded me yesterday! The mix was super vocal heavy, but it gets better after about 15min. As a general rule, I based my board remixes on the last half of the show, as the board mix tends to stabilize then. So the first part might be less than perfect, as this one is. I boosted guitar and bass(and decreased vocal) as much as I could to this mix without making it sound weird.

Verbal Abuse- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 4/27/86 xfer from master audio cassette

It’s mediocre Monday again– and I am definitely mediocre today. I went to sleep at about 12:15am (my usual time)… and woke up at 4:15am and could not go back to sleep. So, I am running on fumes today.
This is another classic set from Verbal Abuse- they opened for The Descendents and it sounds like the crowd wanted them off the stage so they could see the headliner… so VA played FOREVER. Gotta love ’em. This one sounds pretty decent for a 1980s punk audience recording.Thanks Wayne!
Bonus interview with (I think) Fred Cotton at the beginning about Harald O… and Scotty’s intro to the crowd kinda foreshadows how this night is gonna go. Haha.

Christ on Parade- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 4/27/86 transfer from master audience tape hardcore

Wayne Vanderkuil’s 1980s punk recordings are usually on the better side of average for the era. This one is nice and clear, but it sounds like the mix in the club was lacking since there was no snare or bass anywhere in this recording. There is also a soundboard tape of this show, maybe we should matrix them together someday.

R.K.L. – The Farm, San Francisco Ca 4/27/86 transfer f/master audio cassette audience rec Rich Kids

It’s been a while since I posted an RKL thing, but I digitized this one from Wayne Vaderkuil’s collection a while back. This set sounds a bit better than the Christ on Parade from the same show a few weeks ago, but the Farm was not known as a great sounding venue and you can tell here.

There is also a soundboard tape of this set that also doesn’t sound great. Maybe we can mash them together and make one good sounding tape out of the 2.

Happy Mediocre Monday everyone. This one is only mediocre because the board mix was not good… not good at all. I had to rebalance it and it is still only so-so. The tape’s rarity and source make it pretty damned cool actually.
This was from an amazing Day at the Farm with 6 of my favorite bands at the time- what a show!

This is another one of the 3 shows that were on the same tape and dubbed after Wayne Vanderkuil’s Christ on Parade 4/25/87 Gilman soundboard master. Could be one of the times he raided Tim Yo’s collection, or maybe Chris Dodge. Can’t remember.
I did my best to rebalance this one, it was mostly vocals. It still starts out rough, but guitars come in a bit stronger at about 7min and continue to get better throughout the set.

Toxic Reasons- The Farm, San Francisco Ca. 4/27/86 Audio Only Soundboard xfer low gen tape Zero Boys

Here’s another nice sounding board tape from Eric Mcintire’s collection. The band plays a killer set and they even played a couple Zero Boys songs at the end- apparently they had one of the members of the band touring with them. Great set.
By the way, there are over 30 of Eric’s tapes that I am working now. I am posting the shows that sound good enough right now, without the need for post production. Expect more later- possibly even enhanced versions of stuff I have already posted.

Bam Bam- The Farm, San Francisco 4/3/86 xfer master soundboard tape Tina Bell Pre Seattle Grunge

In the last box of goodies that James R Edmonds sent over, he sent me an MDC soundboard master tape to digitize… and this happened to be on the end of the tape. I couldn’t believe it, but it does appear to be an uncirculated Bam Bam recording. Bam Bam were the forebearers of grunge by some accounts, forming in 1983 with Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam) on drums. They put out some material on cassette and released a highly sought after 7″ in 1984. They finally got at least some recognition with a posthumous vinyl release in 2022 along with some press. Check them out, it’s pretty interesting.
So I raved to James about having this tape, and how much the PNW archive folks will appreciate it, so don’t let me down!

M.D.C.- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 4/3/86 xfer from master soundboard tape rebalanced Millions Dead

Since yesterday’s Bam Bam tape was pulled down, here is a bonus post to make up for it. This is M.D.C.’s set from the same night. Man, this sounds great as well. Probably one of the best MDC mixes I have heard. This AND the Bam Bam was on one side of the tape- wow!
