I meant to post this yesterday but Jesse Davis came over to transfer a Umatic tape and much wackiness ensued. It kinda turned into a party.
This post is for Bobby Jordan- he asked for it. He actually wanted video, but video before 1988 is pretty rare around Sac. The quality of this is better than I remembered. I had it rated very low on my tape list but it is shockingly listenable. I think the nak dragon played through the damaged tape.

Here’s another uncirculated master from Mark Martin’s collection. This was right when Possessed started playing longer sets- from 30-40min, to 50-60min. I remember going up front to headbang, and being TRASHED the next day. Screw that headbanging shit.

I did not film this one (I think Jimmy Seville might have) but it is the only video I have from Oasis. Panic included Stanley Hannahs on bass and vocals, and I know that Arson had Jimmy Seville. Do any of my old school metal friends have more info? Lisa Edgar Kim Cook Barbara Keeth?
This one comes from Wayne Vanderkuil’s collection. Wayne deserves a big thanks for keeping all of his tapes throughout the years.
I have mentioned this before, but I’ll say it again. I got started in the tape trading hobby back in 1986 or 1987 and I got a big boost when Mark Martin let me buy his live tape collection at that time, for the price of the blank tapes. He did keep some of his master recordings, which is why some legendary Sacramento shows have not made their way onto the archive yet. This was one of those shows- I did not have a copy and Mark didn’t have it anymore either. In comes Wayne (hero music plays).
All that being said, this tape doesn’t sound great. A lot of tapes recorded with that Panasonic consumer deck had this blurry sounding rumbling low end. I did learn today that most of that bad stuff is at the 56hz band of the EQ, so I can start pulling that out completely (like I did here) to make them listenable. Cool.

Here is a real treat for you KZAP and Sacramento history fans, and a big WTF for the rest of you probably. Haha. This is part of Dennis Newhall’s collection of tapes he dropped with me. Back in the old days, instead of everything being digital and an easy button push, you actually had to cue up LP’s to play on the radio. When it was time for a commercial, you had to cue up the commercial on the reel to reel deck. This is a reel of over 40 commercials from back in the 70s. You get to hear from local favorites like the Shire Road Pub, Sacramento Raceway, Oasis Ballroom, and Jumbo Market. I listened to the entire thing while digitizing it- it’s a lot of fun and pulled some very nice memories for me.
