Ranchero Brothers- Largo, Los Angeles Ca. 8/1/98 xfer from master tape! Old 97s

Back in the 90s, I used to pull these insane roadtrips to see concerts. I would leave my house at about 2pm, drive right to the venue for the show, hit a motel 6 for a few hours sleep, then drive back home by noon. Round trip to LA in less than 24 hours! This show was one of those times. This was the first time that Ranchero Brothers (Old 97s acoustic side project) played Largo. It was shocking- they rolled out almost all of “fight songs” acoustic before anyone heard it. In fact, my DAT soundboard was sent to the label (Desavia) and they used them as demos for the album! I also shot video from back of the club. Shot with Sony TR81 and stock mic.

Donovan- Largo, Los Angeles Ca. Mid-1990s xfer from Hi8 Master Enhanced

Here is a nice sounding video from Steve Rogers’ collection master tapes. We think this is Largo from the mid-90s, and it looks like he made a couple of radio appearances in the area that might narrow down the date- either February 1995 or October 1996.

Holiday Flyer- Largo Pub, Los Angeles Ca 9/2/94 xfer f/DAT Audience Master Tape Soft Science Desario

Alright, here is today’s On This Date in History. I picked this one not because of the quality, but due to the rarity of the performance. The quality is decent but the PA didn’t seem to be real good- this was an EARLY Largo show, way before they became the hotspot for the famous. This seems to be the only Holiday Flyer show from the 90s that I can find online.

I was living in Whittier at the time and my good friends John and Katie were playing, so I headed out to see them. You can here me babble like a fool about my new glasses- I actually stumbled around life with 20/200 vision and I had just gotten my glasses that week.
