Whoa, thanks to Mike Desertt for posting this one out of nowhere. I didn’t know that he filmed up here- I thought it was L.A. and Bay Area only. Thanks Mike!
How did I miss this show?

Following up yesterday’s Shonen Knife post is the Groovie Ghoulies’ opening set from the same night. This is Dan Panic (from Screeching Weasel)’s first show with the Ghoulies! There is an inexplicable 2 minute cut (lost signal) at the beginning of the show that I edited out.
The rebalance in izotope made a huge difference in the quality of this one. This used to be a typical board mix- guitars and bass way back in the mix, lots of drums and vocals up front. Izotope was able to pull the guitar and bass up in the mix without making it sound funny. One of the better results I have had to date with the app.

Equipment used: Sony TCD-D7
Transfer equipment: Sony PCM-R500 and M-Audio Audiophile 2496
Rebalance in Izotope RX7 (Bass +6, Guitar +3)
It’s Kepi day! Kepi has flown down from Portland for his only Sacramento show of the year. It’s at the Chalk it Up festival at Fremont Park. He goes on at NOON- that’s like an hour from now. So listen to this (or his acoustic live stream on facebook this morning), then head out and enjoy the show. the fest is FREE, but buy a shirt because he can’t fly back with them. Unfortunately, I won’t be there. Getting an X-ray on the fractured left wrist.
This was the first Concert in the Park I ever attended, 39 years ago. I was confused because the DAT is labeled as Plaza Park. Today I learned that Plaza Park was the name of Cesar Chavez plaza, before it was renamed!
It boggles my mind that I got there late (tape cuts in mid-song) and the recording is STILL 95 minutes long! The mix is pretty good, but it moves a bit so not a good candidate for a quick rebalance.

Equipment used: Probably a Sony TCD-D7 at this point
Transfer Equipment: Sony PCM-R500 and M-audio Audiophile 2496 card
Sound engineer: Eric Bianchi I think.
So I was an early adopter with all of this VHS to DVD conversion stuff. I bought a capture card in 2001 for WAY too much money and transferred a few videos at lesser quality than what I can do today. I borrowed a few of Ken Doose’s tapes and transferred them. This is one- the Ghoulies at Old I in 1996. Thanks Ken for offering this tape up!
