7 Seconds- Sports Palace, St. Louis Mo. 8/8/88 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape

This is a pretty unique show- Bobby’s guitar was not getting power for a good portion of the set, so the rest of the band did a bunch of dub versions of the song with the crowd singing along. I love spontaneous moments like these. The power loss/singalong starts at about 5min in. The crowd just keeps going when Kevin’s mic loses power as well. SO cool.
This was filmed by my good friend Jim Utz. Like I have mentioned before, cameras, tapes and batteries were super expensive back then (that’s why there are not a ton of opening band videos). Jim would record the master on a VHS-C tape and transfer it to VHS, then record another show on the VHS-C tape. So, this is a transfer from the lowest surviving copy of the show.

7 Seconds- Powertools, Houston Tx. 8/3/88 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape Punk

I traded with this guy in Houston, and he was quite a character. I think his name is Mike Elias (Alias?), but my memory is fuzzy. He used to blatantly film bands without permission- and if he got shut down, he would write me “those guys are essholes”(his exact er, words). He definitely had a unique approach. 🙂 If anyone knows where he is now, please let me know. I lost a master tape and he is the only guy who I know, who has a 1st gen copy of something I really want back.
Anyway, I did not trade for this one- my good friend Jim Utz did, and this is from his collection.

7 Seconds- Danceteria, Sacramento Ca. 6/23/88 xfer from master tape!

So I had my camera for about a month and a half when 7 seconds played a hometown show. They have been one of my favorite bands for over 30 years, so it was a thrill when they have the OK to video. This is a great show, and surprisingly well-lit for the ancient camera. Filmed with an Aiwa CV-80 and stock mic (sorry for the audio quality). Look for yourselves in the front row, all you middle aged punks! This is one of the few Clear & Distinct shows I filmed. Thanks Stuart Katz!

7 Seconds- UC Davis Quad, Davis Ca. 4/29/88 Audio Only xfer from master tape

Since the setlist that Scott Torguson posted from this show seemed to get a big reaction from people, I decided to transfer the old tape. It does not sound great, but not terrible either. Recorded with a Montgomery Ward Boom Box with internal mics. Scott, I hope that it is ok to use your flyer image. Let me know if not.

Audio Live Concert

7 Seconds- Danceteria, Sacramento Ca. 3/11/88 Audio only xfer from master tape Remixed Live

Here is another Clear & Distinct show from Danceteria. I don’t remember why I wasn’t at this show, but thankfully Anonymous was there with his Aiwa consumer handheld recorder to capture the show. The funny thing about that recorder is that most recordings sound like hot garbage with the stock microphone, but if you get REAL close to the PA, it actually sounds good! This is one of those times. It was tinny and midrangey, so I EQ’d it to drop the mids and boost the bass, then put it into Izotope RX to boost the bass some more. NINETY minute set! Holy cow!

PS: Today was chaos, so I was not able to properly listen to the remixed recording. If anything is wrong with it, let me know!

Audio Live Concert

7 Seconds- The Boathouse, Norfolk Va. 7/27/88 xfer from unknown gen VHS tape

I’m trying to mix it up each day and provide a mix of audio and video. I love seeing 7 Seconds shows when they are on tour. I don’t know why, but the Sacramento shows they played over the past 10 years did not have the same crowd energy as these. This one is a lot of fun to watch- the crowd and the band are totally into it!
The guy who filmed this seems to have posted the Circle Jerks set from this night, but not the 7 Seconds portion. I wonder why. I will be forever bummed that the Circle Jerks did not give me permission to film that June 1988 show. This guy must have had connections!

7 seconds- T.T. the Bears Place, Cambridge Ma 7/28/87 xfer from unknown gen VHS

Here’s another installment from the DVD posting project. I am working through my DVDs and posting anything that is Sacramento-related, alphabetically. We are about 1% done so far.
Anyway, here is a nicely shot 7 seconds show from Cambridge ma in 1987. It’s too bad the video is so generated, a clean transfer off the master would probably look great. Anyway, great show from a great era of the band.
