Civil War Rust is from the bay area- I saw them about a year ago at Casa de Chaos and bought all the CDs they had that night. They were that impressive. They have a new CD out called “help wanted” that got some recent play on Live 105 in the bay- good for them. Excellent band.
Last night’s show was so much fun, so many great local bands played along with Tiltwheel. I wanted to say “it was like an all star team of locals” but then I could name 5-10 more GREAT bands. We are lucky to have this scene here. I have been to L.A., Portland (repeatedly) and NYC in the past 4 months and none of them have a scene like this… and NYC surprised me with the lame-ness. OK, Bastards of Young were playing 3rd on the bill, but were probably the biggest draw of the night. The room was definitely the most full then. More great melodic punk. Sean Hills promoted the show and plays bass in the band! Thanks for the show, Sean. You guys sounded great.
Great opening set by the band- very melodic punk with a bunch of well known veterans of the scene- Cory Weigert from Strange Party and others, Joe McKinney from Mad Judy and others, Lys Mayo from Little Tens and THREE other bands (where do you find the time??), and Tony who I am not FB friends with for some reason. They hava a CD out on OUTLOUD! records, which is Matt bennet’s excellent label from Lodi. Check it out! Filmed with a Canon G30/Rode Video Pro Mic on the dreaded “auto” setting.
It was a horrible shock last night to learn that Bobby unexpectedly passed away. Bobby was a fixture in the local Sacramento metal/punk scene. Whenever we saw each other at shows, we would talk about our old metal days. One time, he held a contest on fb for a free slayer biography. The best slayer story got the book. I had an unfair advantage since Matt Polish and I used to hang out with them so I won. I still have the book and I’ll cherish it a bit more now. I’m so sad, he was a really nice guy. Here is a video from the only time I saw his band, Crude Studs play. I don’t know why it doesn’t sound as good as my usual videos- I think I had my rode mic on the wrong setting.

7 seconds were on a big tour(nationwide?) with Success and The Briggs. When they played Sacramento, 7 Seconds were left off the bill and the 2 others played a smaller venue. At the end of the night, 7 Seconds came up and played a short unannouncer set to the appreciative crowd. The mix on this one was a bit unbalanced, so I used isotope rx7 to push the bass way up (+8 or so), plus a guitar boost.

Doing this On This Date in History project has forced me to look back at the collection and find content to post every day. I have discovered that a few (a lot maybe?) of my master videos from the mid-2010’s never made it online. This one is an example of that. I think I was waiting for a multicam edit but the other angle was not good, so it just got lost in the mix. 7 Seconds toured with Success and The Briggs in 2015. This was one of the last shows if not the last show of the tour. 7 Seconds was not on the bill- it was Briggs/Success. I got word that 7 Seconds was going to play a surprise set, so I headed down to Starlite and caught the 23 minute show. The audio was not great on the master video, which is probably another reason why I never posted this. I have a rebalanced soundboard but a cut in the video caused pluraleyes to freak out, so here it is, as is.

Tiltwheel came to town last night and put on a great show. Davey was hilarious and the band and audience were having a blast. It was one of the most joyful shows I have seen in a while. I popped this up quick because I knew that Cory Weigert and Joe McKinney wanted to see it. Thanks to Sean Hills for putting on the show, and it is always nice to see Lys Mayo and Audrey Motzer. The video itself is only so-so. The lighting at the club is low and most lighting comes from behind the band. Also, the middle of the stage is way brighter than the rest. SO, I put my camera on “automatic” to deal with it all, and it did pretty well… except for the audio. I guess when I put the camera on auto, it applies to audio as well. Oh well. It’d not bad, it’s just not as good as I expected. Enjoy!
