This one was a Christmas surprise.
Here’s a little background: A couple months back, Radley Hirsch kindly gave me an Otari reel to reel machine and a machine that is used to bake old tapes for transfer. I was intending to get started on Rick Sylvain’s KALX box of reels here, so I put the cassettes that he had given me aside since I thought there should be better versions on the reels of whatever is on the cassettes.
Well, fast forward to today and I am realizing that it is going to take me longer than expected to get to the reels (and baking tapes makes me very nervous), PLUS the reels are not marked with much info at all. The cassettes and reels may have different content. So I have started digitizing the KALX cassettes again for posting. On Christmas night, I am digitizing the Kirby Grips session in KALX studio from 1997, and after that set Rick announces that he is playing a Joan Jett show from the Keystone. WHAT? I searched online and this looks uncirculated. What a surprise/shock!
I guess that means that now, I will need to digitize every inch of every tape to ensure there is no surprise unlabeled “good stuff” on these tapes!! I’ll get to the reels as soon as I can.
Oh, levels spike for a few seconds but is quickly rectified.
