Here is one that I debated posting, and had actually deleted it from YT a couple years ago… but I noticed that there is a small but loyal following of the group online and there is nothing too offensive here (there is nudity), so up it goes.

I think I mentioned a while ago about my disdain for the palace. Terrible acoustics and security was everywhere. It made it very difficult to videotape, and even getting a decent quality audio recording was challenging. I was such a big fan of Yo La Tengo(opener) and TFC that I asked my friend Todd Nakamine to come with me and “help” videotape the show. I can’t remember which of us snuck the camera in, but I tried filming the YLT set and failed miserably. Todd took the camera and at least hit the stage most of the time for TFC. The stock audio is TERRIBLE. If anyone (Jonathan, Erik, Jon?) has better audio to synch with this, please let me know!

I was surprised to see that this one wasn’t up on Youtube for LMA. Then I played it and realized why… the mix was not great- almost no guitar. this whole night was kind of a mess. There were about 10 tapers up at the board and we tried to do a live matrix of Mudhoney. We did not take into account the delay between stage volume and board feed and the Mudhoney matrix is a mashup of board mix and half second delayed audience. At least this one is clear, with not enough guitar.
Why didn’t I tape the others? No idea.

Here is another gem from Robert Kuhlmann. Man, I wish I knew where “Video Bob” was so we could perform lossless transfers on all of these Club Lingerie multicams that he did in the early 90s. If anyone has any leads, let me know… Longtime bandmates Bob Kuhlmann and George Schneller moved to Los Angeles from their native St. Louis in 1985. Originally calling themselves the Orchids, they showcased their songs on stages throughout Southern California for nearly a decade while changing their name to the Last American Heroes along the way.
Last American Heroes:
Ed Domer – drums Jeff Harris – guitar Bob Kuhlmann – guitar, vocals George Schneller – bass, vocals

Big thanks to Alan Bruce for asking me to dig this one out of the VHS piles. It had 2 Muffs shows on the tape and neither seem to be out there. I could have sworn that this one was on Youtube but I searched a few different ways, even on different devices and nope.
This is one of the band’s first shows. Their first was in January of 1991. There are a few multi camera shows from Club Lingerie from the early 1990s, done by a person named Video Bob. If anyone knows who video Bob is or how he can be contacted now, please let me know.

I know I just posted this a couple weeks back, but I figured out how to improve the audio on this new capture setup. I will go ahead and hide the old post- enjoy!

Hey, someone else told me what to do! Mann Medic just signed up and asked for this MTX show. It was their first show ever in Los Angeles. It’s an audience recording but sounds pretty good. Probably done with a Sony D6 or some other quality piece of gear.
Frank Portman adds: “A memorable night, at least I think I remember it. The recording is new to me, sounds surprisingly good. Astonished to find the unfinished and never released “TV Movie” song (at around 21:50) — surprised we ever played it in public (if the Anti Club counts as “public.”) It’s too long at two minutes, probably best left unreleased, but to my surprise it has its moments.”
Thanks Mann Medic!

I hope everyone is enjoying the super bowl. I missed the first qtr to watch the Kings lose. Here is another one from that stack of VHS tapes. I try to keep away from posting unknown lineage tapes that are clearly suffering from generation loss.. but this one has never surfaced online (that I am aware of), this is my favorite era of CVB, and this is a pretty unique show. Keith Morris comes onstage to sing Wasted with the band. That could not have been easy for Keith, CVB does the song at about half speed compared to the Circle Jerks version. Also, how did this guy get the OK to video at The Roxy? I tried ONCE in the 3 years I lived in L.A., and was told no video and they don’t care who gave permission. I hope a better copy surfaces of this one someday.

For today’s on this date in history, I picked this totally wild Dickies show from 1988. I think I grabbed it off dimeadozen many years ago. It’s not on there anymore, and it isn’t on youtube.
I picked it for a few reasons. This show takes place the day before I saw (and video’d) them for the first time at The Omni in Oakland. The performance is excellent. “hitwithstuff” (the person posting on dime) had the greatest recap of the show. I liked it so much that I took the printed copy of the info sheet I had and scanned it to .pdf, then converted to text to include here… and it didn’t work. I will post the scans of the docs as comments on the facebook posts, because it was clearly a classic show!
Oh, and if “hitwithstuff” or “MC Ferret” wants this pulled down, let me know. Posting it out of love and respect, but happy to comply with whatever they wish.
