Where do I even start with this. Years ago, once I started to get serious about audio and video transfers, I realized that I needed to have some extra gear/redundancy here in case something went down and needed repair. So I have 2 nakamichi tape decks, (more than) 2 VCRs, etc. The thing that was the hardest to get were the datavideo TBC-1000’s, which is the key component to clean video transfers. I finally got 2 of them and had one completely re-done by an expert.
So, fast forward to now. One of the TBC-1000’s (the non-refurbished one) was having a lot of problems- seizing up and becoming pretty much unusable. I grab the 2nd one and start it up… and it’s acting strange. I got it to do 1 video (posting tomorrow) and it croaked. No output.
So despite my best efforts for redundancy, I am now totally dead in the water for video transfers. My apologies to Joshua, Gary, Mike and all the rest of you waiting on video transfers. First the fractured wrist, now this. Ugh,. I was able to contact my TBC repair guy and he is going to prioritize one of them to get me going ASAP.. which is probably a month or so from now.
Anyway, this is today’s on this date in history. It came from a guy named Foxtrotter and digitized by a guy named Creatured (these screen names, I tell ya). It sounds pretty damned good for the era- a boom box recording or similar.

So here’s something. When I went to Eric Mcintire’s place to visit and go through tapes, I was shocked to see this one. I had no idea it existed, much less a low generation version of the tape! Thanks Eric for letting me borrow, digitize and share here.
