Here is a special one- I was amazed to see that Mexico psych legends Los Dug Dugs were playing the cafe- how often do you get to see a band who basically started rock music in a country(in 1960!) in such an intimate venue. I was also amazed to see that they were ok with video, and OK with multitrack recording through the soundboard. It was a great show- rock with rhythm.

Funny story behind this one- this was edited and ready for upload back in October.. but I held off posting it because I had soundboard multitrack files of the set and I wanted to learn how to mix them, so I finally did that this week (Special shout out to Pat Hills for the help with my audio laptop setup and help getting started). Well, once I started the multitrack edit on this one, I realized that a lot of the channels were over driven and had a bunch of static. I might work on it a bit more to see if I can make it sound better, but I will just make that an audio post one day. The audience mic sounds good enough here. Anyway, here are locals Park Street Riot, opening for Love Gang and Los Dug Dugs.

Here’s the other short one today. I was multitasking during this set and I only got 2min of useable video. I was trying out a new camera(which wasn’t good in low light so it went back), plus trying to get my laptop multitrack sbd setup going, which also didn’t work out. Sorry FMH, next time. Here’s a little taste of what they are like.

I wasn’t familiar with much of Unsane’s output but I snagged a ticket to the show out of curiosity… and holy cow they RIPPED. I was talking to Chris Lemos last week about this, and apparently even the band told him that they were not usually that tight. I really think it is the room- the sound improvements that have been made in there make it one of the best sounding rooms in Sac. It helps. It was super dark in there, with only red light being prominent. I did everything I could to enhance the video, but it is still pretty dark.

Here’s one for all of youse guys who went to the Black Flag show last night- forward to about 32:00 for the ultimate dirge cover of My War. I think this is the longest set I have seen Frack play- there are some new songs in there. Hell, watch the whole thing. Unfortunately, the G50 on the bracket above the door vibrates a bit- they were pretty heavy on the low end!

So much to say about this one. I hung out with so many old friends at the show that I only ended up video’ing the Deathryders set. There were a ton (6 or 7) of bands there and the cafe was packed. It was really nice to see everyone show up for the memorial. Pat Stratford was even there, glad to see him out for this. Deathryders are Dustin Stratford (Charlie’s son), Jakobe Ares (playing Lyon Wong’s guitar), Brian Hanover, Charles Albright playing a set of mostly Tales of Terror songs. I did not catch the bass player’s name.
So why, you ask, did I decide to post this on Mediocre Monday? Well, 2 reasons. First, I had my laptop with me so I could record a multitrack off the soundboard but Matt was super busy so I decided to rely on the Rode mic instead for audio… and then something went wrong with the mic. I dropped it right before the set, but I have beat the hell out of that thing and it always worked fine. I think I finally killed it. Anyway, sorry. Maybe they will do another show so I can make up for this. If anyone has decent audio for the full set, please let me know.

I want to thank Jakobe Ares Moreno for sending across these multitrack stubs- we were expecting The Deathryders’ set to synch with video, but the file had the entire show! Thank to Matt from the Cafe for getting this all recorded for us. Here is The Vacant’s set- Charlie was the drummer for the band until he passed away, so Roger and band performed with no drummer. Short set, but the best quality Vacant recording I have heard. Flyer/poster by Paul Imagine. This was the uncolored draft, I’ll use the final version for the rest of the posts. If you would like to contribute to Charlie’s gofundme for final expenses, I will add the link in facebook commments.

Once again, I need to thank Jakobe Ares Moreno for sending the multitrack audio files over so we could synch them up with this video. My audio came out distorted- I think the Rode failed.. so huge thanks! The synch is all whacked out while they prepare to play for the first 1:50. I should have trimmed that out, sorry. Just forward it to 1:50 and they will start rocking. Man, they sounded great.

OK, Back to the Charlie Stratford benefit show. Hellbound Pound started playing shows this year from what I can tell, and is either from Richmond Ca (as one flyer states) or Stockton (as the Stratford Benefit flyer says). Dunno which one is right. Charlie’s gofundme will be in facebook comments, in case you want to contribute.
