Bl’ast- Catalyst, Santa Cruz ca 5/4/01? xfer from DV Master tape incomplete Blast SST Records

Today’s collections post comes from Guerin Myall’s collection of DV tapes. This is somewhat of a wild guess regarding the date and venue on this show, but it looks like The catalyst. The tape was labeled “B’last from Blast Nerve Agents tape”, and the only time newspapers.com shows them playing together at the Catalyst is 5/4/01. Guerin, how did I do?

Also, Al Quint asked for Bl’ast stuff so he gets it. I usually reserve that privilege to my $30/mo patreon subscribers, so consider it a freebie, Al!

You’ll be seeing small/incomplete clips from Guerin’s collection for now. he has a ton of tapes and I only got through about 30 of them before breaking the wrist. the DV machine I use weighs 30 lbs, so it’s going to need to wait until this heals. Sorry.

Bl’ast! – The Farm, San Francisco Ca 12/27/86 xfer from master soundboard cassette rebalanced BLAST

It’s going to be old Farm week here, apparently. This is another soundboard master from James R. Edmonds’ collection. This 3 and a half minute clip is all that exists- it seems that tape was started then stopped. Also, there is pretty much no guitar in the mix- they must have been blasting volume from the stage. I did my best to bring up guitars, but you can’t do much when there is nothing there. Despite all of this, Bl’ast master board from 1986! C’mon, that’s awesome!!

Rebalance in Izotope RX8 (guitar +9 or so, bass +5ish)

Mock- Ruthie’s Inn, Berkeley Ca 5/31/86 xfer f/low gen audio cassette Santa Cruz Punk BL’AST!

This one comes from Wayne Vanderkuil’s collection.

After some discussion, we think that this is the Mock from Santa Cruz that released a 7″ and a full length album in 1995- NINE years after this show! Way to keep at it. It makes sense, as Mock were friends with B’LAST! and they headlined the show.

This is likely to be a first gen cassette since Wayne and Chris were friends, but it is not confirmed. Wayne thinks this came from Chris Dodge, which means that the master might be sitting with Dan Hague/Distort Oakland. Sounds like a boom box recording- not bad.
