The Enemies- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 4/18/25 4K UHD Multicam w/ Schoeps Audio Lookout Records Punk

This was such a fun show and an amazing lineup. Tension Span, Scene Killers, The Enemies, and the Subhumans. It was like an East Bay Punk reunion!
I happened to see The Enemies the last time they played, before this. It was 10 years ago at the benefit show for AK Press w/Green Day and Bobby Joe Ebola. I don’t know if it was due to my familiarity with their material now, but this show totally blew me away. So much energy. Kudos to Larry Boothroyd for filling in on bass for the set.
The most heart warming moment that I have seen at a show in years happened during this set. Mike’s (guitar/vocals) 3 daughters were side stage, dancing along and singing along with the songs. They were probably not old enough to enjoy the experience 10 years ago. It was really cool.
The only downside to the night was the audio. I mean, Schoeps mics are really good quality, but I usually get either a board tape or multitrack stubs to mix down. They changed their setup and neither were available on this night. Bummer. Sounds decent in the room.

Divided Youth- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento 3/17/25 4K UHD Multicam with Matrix Audio Hardcore

Before Tommy Faucett left Sacramento for New York City to start college, his band Divided Youth played one final show at the cafe. It was PACKED and the crowd was pretty active. That might have been the biggest pit I have ever seen there. Punk Dad Brian Hanover comes up to play on a song as well.

The audio on this one was a real challenge. The sound in the venue was good, but very heavy on bass guitar and bass drum. Schoeps mics are naturally bass heavy, so there is just a ton of bass in the audience recording. The board mix had guitar and snare, but the bass in the mix sounded odd and shallow. So I had a rebalance the board, then matrix it with the audience. the rebalance settings on this one are going to look crazy, but it worked!

Comeback Kid- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 3/14/25 4K UHD Multicam with Schoeps audio

I forgot to post video today and I need to head out asap, so I will make this quick. No board tape because the bands brought their own soundboard, so you get audience audio only for this one. Bummer.

Victims Family- Phoenix Theatre, Petaluma Ca 3/7/25 4K UHD Multicamera Schoeps Audio Late Years Set

Here is one from my collection that was supposed to post yesterday, but youtube took over 12 hours to process it up to 4k! I waited until midnight for it to finish, then finally just went to sleep. You get TWO collections posts today! Lucky you.
This set is totally unique. Tim had a last minute conflict with his Drum Tech job, so Ralph and Larry had their friend Brian Polk (Joy Subtraction and others) fill in on drums. This set leans heavily on latter era stuff, which is really cool since a lot of this is rarely played. So if you are looking for Voltage and Violets/Things I Hate to Admit played in their entirety, you’re in the wrong place. haha. They do a few old ones, but there are a lot of songs I have never heard live here.
One last thing. This should have been a soundboard/audience matrix, but the soundman pulled the drive out before it finished finalizing. I can usually rescue files like that, but this one had glitches throughout. PSA for sound people- please leave the drive in for a minute! So many issues with this lately.

Four Eyes- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento 2/23/25 4K UHD Multicam w/Schoeps Audio

It was 11:59pm when I started this post, so I still made it for Sunday’s video post! I had a long day and forgot to post the daily thing from the collections. It’s not great timing to post while everyone is sleeping. Nobody watches. At least I am only short changing myself (and the Four Eyes) and none of the awesome collections I have here.
So this will be the last post from this show. The 3 openers only. BJE is coming back in about a month, so let’s try to get something post-worthy this time around.
This was a funny one- the band was sitting at the bar, waiting to play. The soundman was waiting at the board for the band. There were threats of sets being cut short, but they got their full 30 minutes in.

Lokeigh- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 2/23/25 4K UHD w/ Soundboard Audio Folk Punk

Wow, I am over 3 months behind in posting master videos.. and I did a ton in April and May. They will all come as soon as we can get them done. Stay tuned.

Lokeigh was one of the opening acts at the Cafe Colonial show. Lokeigh is the stage name/persona of Tyler Ferris Masteller, formerly of I Kill Cameron and also in Dandelion Massacre.

Since Tyler is a solo artist, I usually only shoot one camera or audio only, to not ruin the intimate setting. I did away with the 5 camera angles so you only get this one. Unfortunately, my battery died and I feebly fumbled with my bag forever trying to find a fresh one. I missed about 5 minutes of the show. Sorry about that.

Knockoffs- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 2/23/25 4K UHD Multicam w/ Scheops Audio Punk Live Full Show

Welp. What a day. Got rear ended while stopped and turning left at a stoplight a couple hours ago, then I came home and realized that my computer is kinda messed up. I mounted a mac hard drive to my windows PC and my RAID drive letters changed as a result, which seems to have broken at least 1 of my programs (Adobe Premiere/neat video). Time for a new install, I suppose.

Instead of the planned Chris Eng post which needs Adobe, let’s post this one in honor of Bobby Jordan. Bobby is the bass player in the Knockoffs and a bunch of other Sacramento area bands. A little over a week ago, 7 Seconds contacted him and asked him to learn an hour long set of songs. They had 1 rehearsal and then played 2 shows over the weekend. He was awesome. The Harlow’s show was probably the best 7 seconds show I have seen in person since 1986. Great crowd.

Anyway, The Knockoffs played Cafe Colonial a few months ago and were great. I have been a fan for over 25 years- glad they are still playing shows.

Generacion Suicida- Cafe Colonial Sacramento 2/17/25 4K UHD Multicam w/ Schoeps audio Complete Show

I saw Generacion Suicida once by accident in 2017- they opened the Proletariat show at Black Lodge in Seattle- and they blew me away. The crowd loved them too- it was packed in there.
So when I saw they were playing a headlining show at the cafe, I couldn’t miss it. Wow, have they grown as a band since 2017- playing the most intense post-punk I have ever heard. One of the best shows I have seen at the cafe.

False Flowers- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 2/17/25 4K UHD Multicam Schoeps Audio RAD Whiskey Rebels

Since it is a Friday, you get a second video today. That’s right, TWO videos!
False Flowers is a new band who opened the great Build Us Airplanes/Generacion Suicida show at the Cafe last month.
The band is kind of an all-star cast of Sacramento’s punk scene. Brian Hanover (Whiskey Rebels, Hanover Saints, Union Hearts, etc) plays guitar and (I think) is the main songwriter, Lory Gil and Craig (from RAD and Sick Burn) on Vocals and Drums, and Conrad Melancon on bass.
Posy-punk awesomeness. Check it out, and then check them out at the Cafe tomorrow night with Visions from Portland and Killer Couture.

Build Us Airplanes- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 2/16/25 4K Multicam w/ Schoeps Audio Monster Squad

Alright, I need to hurry up, so here is an early Saturday video post. Build Us Airplanes is a pretty unique sounding indie-punk band with some members of Monster Squad. The recently released a new LP “All Things Expire” after a 10+ year break. They occupied the middle slot in that stacked False Flowers/Generacion Suicida show.
