Monsula- The Lookouting, 924 Gilman Berkeley 1/6/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 and Rode Mic

Great show last night. There was no place to film- I did the first 3 bands from the floor and they are not so good. I will upload those next week. I had to get creative and I finally found a decent spot for Monsula and Corrupted Morals. Monsula’s set was MUCH higher energy than the show at 1234 go records last week.

Surrogate Brains- The Lookouting, 924 Gilman Berkeley Ca. 1/6/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30

Out of all the bands at the Lookouting, Surrogate Brains was the one band who I really loved the most after rediscovering them. I filmed them at a show in 1988 and have had their 7″s for a while, but their songs have really held up. LOVE America the Machine. I am bummed that I can’t go to the show at Casa (if it is happening). Part 1 of this is filmed with the monopod in my pocket, so it is not as good as most of the others. I then find the perch that I used for the rest of the fest, and part 2 and 3 are MUCH better. So glad I was able to see them twice. I hope they keep it going.

The Wynona Riders- The Lookouting, 924 Gilman Berkeley Ca. 1/6/17 Part 1 HFG30

The first few bands from night 2 of The Lookouting were challenging to film. The table I normally use to elevate my monopod was used for merch, so I had to improvise. I popped the monopod in my pocket which means a little more camera movement than usual. I hope you can still enjoy it. Also, the lighting was totally different for the Wynona Riders’ set. Very dark in spots of the stage.

Surrogate Brains- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 1/2/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode Mic

I had not seen Surrogate Brains since 1988 in a tiny rehearsal studio, opening for the Accused. They were one of the most anticipated bands of The Lookouting for me, so when they added a show at Ivy Room, I had to go. The Ivy Room has a very short stage, so I had to boost my camera to about 11 feet high or so. That means no zoom/pans. Hope you still enjoy it!

The Invalids- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 1/2/17 Lookouting Punk Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode mic

Here is The Invalids’ set from Ivy room. Great set, but I was so tired by the time they came on. I missed the history event yesterday as well, Being from the Sacramento suburbs is preventing me from going to all of the events. Well, that and life.

Surrogate Brains- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 1/2/17 Audio Only Sony M10 & DPA4061 Mics

This was Surrogate Brains’ first performance in about 30 years. I think it was the best one. Gilman was a shorter set and they were 1 band in a 7 band bill.
I posted video of this show last year, but this is my audio recording done with my Sony M10 and DPA 4061 mics. It sounds a bit better than the video, and the bass is much fuller on this one.
