Firehose- Warner Grand Theater, San Pedro Ca. 2/12/94 xfer from DAT Master Aud Recording Nak CM300

I was planning on posting something different today, but I listened to this last night and realized that today is the anniversary of this show. So we heard through the grapevine(the only way to hear about stuff like this back then) that fIREHOSE were playing their last show ever at a place that was never on the radar for shows..
So I show up and there is hardly anyone there. The place is massive, so they just had everyone come on stage with them and they set up sideways on the stage- meaning they were on one end of the stage, facing the side stage area on the opposite side. It was a very odd experience.
The show was odd as well. It was a bit tense- you can hear Watt stop Ed at one point and ask him to slow it down, since it is the last show. The sound is not great- playing sideways in a huge theater causes a lot of sound issues.
I am surprised that no one has posted anything from this show. There were multiple tapers and video cameras there.
So, yeah, fIREHOSE broke up 27 years ago today.

Rush- Arco Arena, Sacramento Ca 2/10/94 xfer from 8mm master tape Enhanced Geddy Lee Neil Peart Alex

We have almost made it to the weekend- what a grind of a week this has been. I hope everyone stays cool- temps are going to be brutal.
Speaking of cool, here is one out of Gary Shurtleff’s box of master tapes. This looks to be a partial set and I did not see the other part in any of the boxes. I hope it was captured.
Anyway, here is 40min of the Rush set at Arco in 1994. I am sure that a bunch of my friends were there. This is another one that cleaned up that 8mm grain nicely, even though it wasn’t captured lossless.

Seaweed- Cattle Club, Sacramento CA 2/6/94 xfer from master videotape!

I want to thank Kirk Janowiak and Marty Sertich personally for posting this stuff, as I have not had enough time to post things that have been on my hard drive for a month.

Another awesome post! I missed so many good cattle club shows when I was in L.A. For reference, I was at Yo La Tengo/Teenage Fanclub at the Palace in Hollywood the night before this show.

Teenage Fanclub- Palace, Hollywood Ca. 2/5/94 xfer from Hi8 Master Tape

I think I mentioned a while ago about my disdain for the palace. Terrible acoustics and security was everywhere. It made it very difficult to videotape, and even getting a decent quality audio recording was challenging. I was such a big fan of Yo La Tengo(opener) and TFC that I asked my friend Todd Nakamine to come with me and “help” videotape the show. I can’t remember which of us snuck the camera in, but I tried filming the YLT set and failed miserably. Todd took the camera and at least hit the stage most of the time for TFC. The stock audio is TERRIBLE. If anyone (Jonathan, Erik, Jon?) has better audio to synch with this, please let me know!

D.I.- Berkeley Square, Berkeley Ca 2/4/94 xfer from 1st gen audio cassette Adolescents Casey Royer

Here is a cool one from Dal Basi’s tape collection. Man, I love D.I.- they have been one of the only bands who hooked me on first listen (horse bites dog cries) in 1986 and have been with me ever since. They were one of the first punk bands I ever taped (El Dorado Saloon 1/10/87), the first band I ever recorded on DAT (Cattle Club 6/30/91), and one of the first multicams I attempted in 2013. So great that they are still at it.
This show comes from the same tape (and taper) who taped the Moist Berkeley Square and Offspring Gilman shows, and it sounds similar. Sounds like a Sony D3 deck to me. Nice and clear but thin.
