Scherzo- Tiffany’s, Clayton Ca 9/20/92 xfer from master VHS tape Lookout Records Punk

This one is definitely the last one from Rodney Parker’s collection. Thanks Rodney for letting me digitize his tapes- that was a fun project!

Scherzo was a band from the east Bay and put out an LP and 7″ on Lookout in the early 90s. I think they are playing a house party here.

Reach Out- Tiffany’s, Clayton, CA 9/20/92 xfer from master video tape Emo Punk

Just FYI, it is going to take a few days for me to process those vote winners. Synching and rendering 4k video takes forever…

Here is your collections post for the day. I think that I might have announced that I finished Rodney Parker’s uploads but I apparently have a couple more.

Reach out were an American screamo / emotional hardcore band from Northern California. Members were: Bob Beck, Mike Martinez, Mikel Garmendia, Philip Scott, and Stacey Iguchi.

Jolt- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 9/12/92 xfer from 1st gen Soundboard Cassette Rebalanced Slambodians

My East Bay Punk education continues- I love these Eggplant and KALX tapes. They are constantly providing me with new discoveries and connections in the East Bay Punk scene.
(Discogs) Jolt originally consisted of singer/bassist and principal songwriter Paul Duarte, Drummer Jim Pittman (formerly of Slambodians and later of The Mr.T Experience), and guitarist Karl Matthies (formerly of Slambodians). This mix was light on guitars so I popped it into Izotope Rx8 and it turned out nice.

Here come a few days of uncle tupelo tapes from their archive. This is an acoustic performance which is nice quality- lots of stuff from the march 16-20 release which is rare. Also rare is the cover of Neil Young’s “motion pictures” as an encore.

Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down (flawed)/ True To Life/ No Depression/ Watch Me Fall/ Shaky Ground/ Atomic Power/ Whiskey Bottle/ Wait Up/ Wipe the Clock/ I Wish My Baby Was Born/ Do Re Mi/ Life Worth Livin’/ I Wanna Be Your Dog/ Still Be Around/ Warfare/ Moonshiner/ Grindstone/ Sin City/ Motion Pictures

Soundboard recording. All acoustic set at a folk festival. Brian Henneman sat in for the entire set. First known version of “Moving Pictures” by Neil Young.

Far- Sacto Active Rock, Sacramento Community Cable 9/9/92 xfer f/Umatic Master Tape Jonah Matranga

Another late one for you today, and we still have an audio post coming!
I had intended to post this one about a week ago and realized that I prepped it at a super low resolution. This was one of the first things I did after walking in the door from Las Vegas yesterday. Man, these umatic transfers look so nice and there are a lot more to go.

Bulimia Banquet- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 9/6/92 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette

It’s another Eggplant Monday! This mix had plenty of guitars in the mix, but vocals were low. The drums were ok during the start of the set and then drop out of the mix. So I popped it into Izotope and fixed it up- hope you like it.
Bulimia Banquet release a couple of albums on Flipside in the late 80s and had Dez Cadena as a member of the band at one point.

Junior Brown- Strawberry Music Festival, Camp Mather Yosemite Ca 9/5/92 xfer from DAT Sbd-FM Clone

Here’s a fun one for today’s On This Date in History. The Strawberry Music Fest has historically operated/broadcast a low power FM signal of the live sets across the festival grounds. I think the purpose was for people camping- they could still listen to the fest performances from their campsite. But of course, we had some creative tapers who would bring in an FM receiver and a cassette deck or in this case, a DAT recorder to tape the fest.

This one sounds really great, and Junior is blazing- what a guitar shredder! You don’t really expect that if you are new to his performances, but he totally rips.
