Chomphard- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca. 3/31/90 Multicam w/ Soundboard Audio xfer from band’s VHS

Here’s something you don’t see every day- a multicam video from phoenix theater from 30 years ago. People filming with this type of quality on location was kind of unheard of back then. There were a couple but they were for community cable shows. There are no credits on this one, so it is hard to tell if this was ever aired or if it was just hobbyists. Cool regardless.
There was a really bad hum in the audio so I extracted it and used Izotope’s de-hum feature which kicks ass.
From Eddie Jorgensen’s archive. He is the long haired drummer. 🙂

From eddie: This particular show was Disciples Of Ed (DOE), The Louies, Hood House, and Chomphard at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, CA, Show was sold out and was an all local show.

Movie Stars- Starry Plough, Berkeley Ca. 3/30/90 Part 1. Direct xfer from master tape!

My favorite movie stars shows were the ones where they played 2 sets in a night, because they would pull out some killer covers along with deep cuts of their own excellent material. Combine that with one of the greatest venues in California, and you have this- one of my favorite shows of theirs.Around 2 hours of fun! Recorded with the old Aiwa CV80 and a Sony ECM909 velcro’d to the top.

Kevn Kinney and Peter Buck- Paradise Lounge, San Francisco Ca 3/11/90

This show was a big thrill for me. My friend Matt Polish and I left Sacramento at about noon to ensure we got to the club for soundcheck. We were both big R.E.M. fans and I had the Macdougall Blues CD. It was the first time I met a big “rock star” and Peter was totally cool. I got the ok to film and perched myself on the balcony and got a pretty good shot. Audio for the show was synched by Sam Habash (Lammah). Thanks, Sam! Includes appearances by Nikki Sudden.

The Cynics- Club Underground Madison Wi 3/10/90 xfer from 1st gen audio cassette Garage Rock Get Hip

It’s a laaaate collections post today. This was one of the more physically demanding days in a while. Thanks to Bill and Cory for all the help. What a day.
One good thing about it was that Jason Ross had all day to reply to my questions about this tape from his collection:
“my copy is first generation. It was taped by the co-owner of a used record store that I worked at an Appleton. His name was Stan Erickson. He would have taped that with Awai an deck, the same model I used for a Rawlins Band and some others. Not sure of the generation. Remember around that time it retailed for about $129 at Best buy. I’m sure if I saw a picture of it, I’d recognize the model.” I think I know the model – anonymous used it for his early tapes as well.

The 5 second space of nothing at the start of this one is intentional, so we could avoid the F Bomb within the first 8 seconds of the video. YT gets excited when Early F-Bombs drop

There was some high end distortion that I was able to EQ out of there. Sounds pretty decent now.
