Former band manager Marc Malakie handed me a bag of Kai Kln tapes last November, and I just got permission to start posting them. Here is the first one, from Davis Graduate. It is pretty dark- the rest of the videos look a lot better.

Thanks to Brian Mckenna for sending a ton of demo tapes my way to digitize. Here is the first batch.
This demo came out in 1990 according to the internets.
Track Listing is The Last Song/Encounter With ?/Gag Reflex/Into the Woods/Requiem/No Eating Allowed/As Black As…
This is killer technical thrash metal from Sac and it kicks ass.
Audience participation time! This is from Dal Basi’s tape collection and there is no info besides what you see. Dal is a Stockton OG, so this is probably a stockton band from anywhere between 80s-2010s. Let me know if you have any ideas. Shazam AND the all-seeing youtube copyright algorithm both have no idea what the hell it is.
Tracks are number and cool 2 be u.

Here is another audio tape from Dan Pettit’s collection. I am pretty sure that these guys were from upstate New York, as the drummer went on to play in a band called “The Kill” from Mahopac.. which is where Dan lived in the 80s. None of the other members seemed to go on to other bands… at least, none that I could find.

Well, here’s a cool gift from Eric McIntire to all of you this Tuesday (but feels like Monday). A demo of the band Grinch from 1990. Grinch was a group made up of east bay punk/thrash stalwarts- Idon Bryant was in Crimpshrine, Ron Nichols was in Christ on Parade, Sean Smithson was in Sacrilege BC, and Kontos has been in a ton of great bands (Attitude Adjustment to Machine Head and many in between). All 4 of these tracks are on the first Grinch LP. The cool thing about this demo is that these feature the legendary MURRAY BOWLES on cello for Snakes & Ladders.

After Short Dogs Grow’s final show at the I-Beam in July of 1990, they invited me to an after hours party somewhere in SF. I hung out for a bit and they let me copy this demo. These were some of the new songs that never made it onto an album. The production was extremely bright, so I brought the highs down about 3db and boosted up the bass a bit. It’s the last time I saw any of the band- nice to reconnect with Carmela and Tom here on FB.

And here is the second bonus video. This is my favorite DA track- does the entire show exist? It would be amazing to see it! Even better, let’s do a proper transfer and enhancement of that old tape.
