Fugazi- Bernard’s Pub, St. Louis Mo 6/5/89 xfer from 1st gen VHS Complete Show

Jim Utz messaged me the other day and asked about this one. I have no idea why it’s not on the archive, but it is probably time to do lossless transfers of all of those St. Louis masters. This one was done with the good Canopus setup and the audio is way too low. Yes, even though it looks like it suffers from generation loss, this really came off of a VHS from the VHS-C master tape. That’s how they look sometimes. Running the actual master through the AG1980 and the TBC-1000 would clean it up a bit.

Corrupted Morals- Whole Earth Fest, Davis Community Park 6/3/89 xfer from 8mm master LIVE

I think that I had to work during at least part of this set. I vaguely recall begging Mike Yoas to help me film this with my equipment. I’m not sure if he did the entire show, or if I am the one who came and got close to the stage. Really nice quality- I wish all punk shows could be outside in the daytime.

Christ on Parade- Davis Community Park, Davis Ca. 6/3/89

This year’s whole earth fest was amazing. What a lineup! I got there late (work) but I managed to catch one of my favorites. Check the beginning of the video when Lint gives me a greeting, one week after op ivy broke up. I was standing on top of a guitar amp in the crowd and came close to getting knocked off multiple times. oh, one last thing. This video suffers from over exposure a bit. It was dusk and Noah wasa wearing white, which wreaked havoc on the old dinosaur camera (Aiwa CV-80 with Sony ECM909 mic)

Green Day- Davis Community Center, Davis Ca 6/2/89 xfer from master incomplete brightened

Here is one for Scott Torguson and Danny Ensele. I asked Jim McLain to brighten my operation ivy last show master, and there happened to be a bit of the Green Day show on there as well, so he did it too! I should have asked him to do both, he does amazing work. Check out his youtube channel if you can. So, I went to this show after seeing Green Day play at Gilman on 5/28. I fell in love with them immediately so I went to this Davis show. This video would have looked GREAT but they turned the lights out right before they played. D’oh. I talked to Billie Joe about this video at the Monsula show last year- he not only knew about the video, he said he watched it and that there is an unreleased song on it called “xxx” (I can’t remember, shit). I thought that was really cool that he knew of the video. I’ll post the complete non-brightened version next.

The Skeletones- Country Club, Reseda Ca 6/2/89 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape Ska

Here’s a fun one for This Date in History. I got this from the guy who taped it, but I cannot recall who it is. I think it is the same guy who filmed a bunch of ska bands at Spanky’s Cafe in Riverside, including a super early show of No Doubt. Surprisingly not on youtube yet.
Check out the crowd for this one- the entire crowd is doing one huge pogo at times. Wow! They weren’t even the headlining band- that would be Bim Skala Bim. It’s a really fun watch, especially if you are a fan of ska.

Green Day- Davis Community Center, Davis Ca. 6/2/89 xfer from 8mm master enhanced LIVE

OK, here is the last one for today. I did my best with this one but it looks like bad surveillance video. They turned the lights off so the band only had lighting from behind them. In past versions of the video, you can’t see the guitar at all. I cranked the shadow fill effect in adobe premiere and de-noised the video as much as I could with the neat plugin. I hope you like it. If not, the original version is on sacramentomusicarchive.com as well.

Jonathan Segel and David Immergluck- Great American Music Hall,SF 6/1/89 full set xfer f/JES Archive

The first of the month is always a bit challenging for the On This Date in History project. There are tons of listings that show as “6/1/xx” by default because they were done sometime in June with no specific date. There was more than one show I selected to post today that turned out to be a non-specific date. First world problems, right?
Anyway, I think this one was really performed on June 1. This was a benefit show at GAMH for Project Open Hand, which generated funds for the AIDS Meals on Wheels organization. Great cause.
Alias Records released a CD with some of the performances from this night, but they included only 1 song from each artist. This is Jonathan and David’s full 4 song set from that night. The final track, Love’s Not Lost, was included on the Alias release. There were tons of great artists on the CD including live performances from Chuck Prophet, Penelope Houston, and Alex Chilton.
