Majority of One- Foxhole Promo Video xfer f/Umatic Master Tape Russ Gibb Archive Toledo Oh Punk

Today’s video collections post is a short one. This is yet another one that I snagged from the Russ Gibb sale of personal items that seemed to go on for years on ebay. This was one of the few Umatic tapes that I got from the sales- this and the Misfits commercial. If anyone knows who has the Circle Jerks Umatic that I missed out on, please let me know. I would be happy to digitize it.

Maximumrocknroll Radio Show- Tape 5 Late 1980s xfer master FM Cassette Live Fugazi MRR Maximum Rock

More audio from Bootleg Cowboy’s collection. Last time we met up, he gave me a small box of cassettes that he recorded off of the MRR radio show. This one includes a live Fugazi track, but the announcer does not give a date or venue for that live track.

As usual, these are just great. This was a serious lifeline in the pre-internet days.

The Sextants- Demo Late 80s/Early 1990s xfer f/ master audio cassette San Francisco Alternative Rock

Collections post from Anonymous 2 today. The Sextants formed in the late ’80’s in Las Cruces, New Mexico. They moved to San Francisco in 1987 and they were seemingly everywhere in the bay area in the late 80s/early 90s. They did 1 major label album and then I thought that was it… but I see from their bandcamp page that they have a ton of other releases. Wow, who knew?

Even with all of that newly discovered bandcamp stuff, this one doesn’t seem to be available for sale from the band. It also doesn’t shazam to any official releases, so here you go.

I loved the early SF “pre-alternative” scene of the late 80s. So many great bands.

it sounds like the program was repeated on both sides so you get a repeat of the songs at about 10:30 in.

Bazooka Joe- Demo late 1980’s? South Carolinia Punk xfer from low gen audio cassette

Starting with the collections post today since I have not even started digitizing the On This Day one. This is from Arica Pelino’s collection of tapes.
UPDATE: Thanks to Scott Torguson, who identified this band as the Myrtle Beach SC Bazooka Joe.
I have no idea who the other members are, or if he played all the instruments himself. Any help with additional members/actual year of demo etc would be great.

RKL- Old European show(s), xfer from band archive VHS R.K.L. Rich Kids on LSD

Since I am heading out the door to see RKL today, here is some old footage from Barry’s collection of VHS tapes. This one was labeled “Another Old RKL Video Not Transferred from PAL”. So I pull out the trusty PAL VCR.. and the tape is super damaged. The top part of the tape is totally serrated. I tried to play it about 5 times and realized the tape was degenerating quickly, so I just ran with what I could get. The screen does stop flipping about 5min in. The band in the middle of the screen does not stop. Oh well. Hardcore fans only I suppose.

RKL- Garatge Club, Barcelona Spain 1993 w/Jason Sears show xfer f/ band archive VHS Rich Kids on LSD

Barry Ward gave me a few boxes of tapes a couple years back, and he had this and one other VHS tape marked as a priority. It was in PAL format, so I don’t think he was able to get it digitized until now.
After a LOT of trial and error with Virtualdub, I was finally able to find the right settings to capture this PAL tape. (side note- the higher end the gear, the more manual it is to get set up)
I can’t tell what the writing on the tape says except “RKL” and “Spain”. I thought it said “Garabethe” but there is no venue or city of that name. Maybe “Garage The”? Anyway, hopefully Barry can fill in the blanks around venue, city and date.
RKL is back and they have a bunch of shows scheduled with new vocalist Abe Brennan. Today marks the 19th anniversary of Jason Sears’ passing. R.I.P. to a true legend.

12 Bands from Benicia Punk Compilation w/Crimpshrine Fifteen Pinhead Gunpowder xfer f/ official tape

Here is one from Arica Pelino’s cassette collection. Since we are on a Green Day moratorium until the tour ends, you get a bunch of really cool and sometimes obscure stuff from her collection.
This comp tape has some well known bands along with bands I have only seen on Gilman St. flyers and never heard.
The first 3 minutes of this tape was trashed- the tape was totally serrated – I am surprised it even played through. Fwd to 3min for a more audible recording.

Fungo Mungo- 4 Song Demo 1989 xfer from official demo tape Funk Metal Primus

Arica Pelino’s collection isn’t only Green Day and East Bay Punk tapes- she also has a nice collection of other demo tapes that I am working through. Expect posts from her collection on Wednesdays, with more rare Green Day stuff coming once they are off tour. Huge amounts of gratitude to Arica for bringing the suitcase of magic here for digitizing.
This demo was posted on YT by someone else a few months back but I decided to post this one because a) That post does not have this awesome tape cover (that I am afraid to post on FB) and b) this one is transferred with the Nak Dragon.
Fungo Mungo was a funk metal band from the bay area who were active from the late 1980s into the early/mid 90s. Friends of Primus.

Zygote- Demo, Rehearsals and Live 1989 Post-Amebix xfer from cassette

I thought that this one had already been posted to YouTube, but James R Edmonds let me know that this was different than the Bluurg release. Thanks to James for taking the time to compare.
Zygote formed after Amebix split in the late 1980s and consisted of former Amebix members Spider, George Smutpig & Stig with the addition of former The Smartpils member Tim Crow.
