Operation Ivy- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 6/24/88 xfer from 1st gen VHS with enhanced audio multicam

Here is the post for today- it’s another full show from the Gilman benefit streaming event. This one was taken from the cleanest VHS copy available- the tape comes from legendary soundman Radley Hirsch’s VHS tape, transferred with a high end VHS setup.
If you have heard/seen other versions of this show on youtube, the straight board mix on the video is not great. It is basically all bass and vocals. We extracted the audio and we were able to improve it a little. You can now hear guitar and there is some snare in there as well.

7 Seconds- Danceteria, Sacramento Ca. 6/23/88 xfer from master tape!

So I had my camera for about a month and a half when 7 seconds played a hometown show. They have been one of my favorite bands for over 30 years, so it was a thrill when they have the OK to video. This is a great show, and surprisingly well-lit for the ancient camera. Filmed with an Aiwa CV-80 and stock mic (sorry for the audio quality). Look for yourselves in the front row, all you middle aged punks! This is one of the few Clear & Distinct shows I filmed. Thanks Stuart Katz!

Redrum- Merrie Melodies Record Store, Lodi Ca. 6/18/88 Sacramento Thrash Metal

So this one is kind of a long story so I will try to keep it short. I used to manage Redrum and they were playing an outdoor show in Lodi on a Saturday. I had to work saturdays so I worked half day, then raced over there to see them play. Well, I did not have a chance to eat… and there was a lot of free beer at the show… so unfortunately you get to see some of the hijinks after the set. Please note that CARLOS is manning/directing the camera during most of the after-show stuff.

NOFX- Ruthie’s Inn, Berkeley Ca 6/12/88 xfer from 2nd gen VHS tape Fat Mike Fat Wreck Chords

I screwed up the “On This Date in History” post and I need to get going, so that will happen later. Let’s do this bonus post first.

Speaking of getting going- if you are out today, please be careful.

Thanks to MannMedic for Telling Me What to Do! You can also tell me what to do- head over to Patreon and tell me what tape you want. Link below.

The Accused- Ruthie’s Inn, Berkeley Ca 6/12/88 xfer from 2nd gen VHS tape Punk Crossover

I pulled this DVD for today’s On This Date in History. I digitized some of ⁨@bootlegcowboys⁩ VHS tapes years ago and this was one of them. The filmer did the entire night- NOFX, Paranoia, and The Accused. NOFX was posted (on facebook only) by Daniel Hague, and this Accused set is nowhere online.

Why wasn’t I there? Because I was videotaping TWO shows on this night. Sacrilege BC at Lite Rail inn, then over to Club Obsession (later club me, then cattle club) for Dag Nasty… in Sacramento

Dag Nasty- Club Obsession (Club Me Cattle Club), Sacramento Ca 6/12/88 xfer from 8mm master Enhanced

I think this was the first time I ever set foot into the venue that would become the Cattle Club. Thanks to my old friend Greg Dean for bringing the band to Sacramento. This video was pretty much unwatchable before, due to it being too dark. The enhancements make it somewhat tolerable. I need to see if I have another audio source for this one, as the stock mic sounds like hell.

Sister Double Happiness- Trocadero Transfer, San Francisco Ca. 6/12/88 Audio only 1st gen soundboard

This one is unfortunately incomplete. SDH was Gary Floyd (from legendary Texas punk band The Dicks), plus other members of The Dicks and Pop-O-Pies. Radley used this show to fill up the Soulside & Doughboys Gilman soundboard tape. A little reverby, but a decent mix. only about 18min of the set.
