This is another one of the 3 shows that were on the same tape and dubbed after Wayne Vanderkuil’s Christ on Parade 4/25/87 Gilman soundboard master. Could be one of the times he raided Tim Yo’s collection, or maybe Chris Dodge. Can’t remember. I did my best to rebalance this one, it was mostly vocals. It still starts out rough, but guitars come in a bit stronger at about 7min and continue to get better throughout the set. From Wayne Vanderkuil’s collection

It’s mediocre Monday again– and I am definitely mediocre today. I went to sleep at about 12:15am (my usual time)… and woke up at 4:15am and could not go back to sleep. So, I am running on fumes today. This is another classic set from Verbal Abuse- they opened for The Descendents and it sounds like the crowd wanted them off the stage so they could see the headliner… so VA played FOREVER. Gotta love ’em. This one sounds pretty decent for a 1980s punk audience recording. Thanks Wayne! Bonus interview with (I think) Fred Cotton at the beginning about Harald O… and Scotty’s intro to the crowd kinda foreshadows how this night is gonna go. Haha.

Happy Mediocre Monday everyone. This one is only mediocre because the board mix was not good… not good at all. I had to rebalance it and it is still only so-so. The tape’s rarity and source make it pretty damned cool actually. This was from an amazing Day at the Farm with 6 of my favorite bands at the time- what a show!

Here’s another nice sounding board tape from Eric Mcintire’s collection. The band plays a killer set and they even played a couple Zero Boys songs at the end- apparently they had one of the members of the band touring with them. Great set. By the way, there are over 30 of Eric’s tapes that I am working now. I am posting the shows that sound good enough right now, without the need for post production. Expect more later- possibly even enhanced versions of stuff I have already posted.
Alright, since the Exodus Bonded by Blood 40th anniversary show happened last night, I figured that I would post a couple metal related things this weekend for On This Date in History. Oh, semi-pro tip for folks who bought the Exodus live stream- I noticed that they broadcast Exodus live last night, but if you go to the replay, there is about 15 minutes of Blind Illusion at the very start of the replay. I am screen capping it now (for my own personal use of course), but there is no Death Angel. I wonder why… Anyway, how about that tribute to Paul? Those audio clips of him were classic!
Here is a really interesting one. WRTN was a left of the dial FM station out of New Rochelle NY that existed from 1953-2006. They had an underground metal show on friday night/saturday morning at midnight each week. I am a sucker for these independent underground radio shows. So cool. Anyway, it sounds like King Diamond actually came in studio with them and sat for an hour-long interview. Lots of Mercyful fate history is discussed. It’s a really fun listen to fans of the king.
This one was either heavily traded or the FM signal was not great because there was a lot of noise on the tape. I use Izotope Rx8’s Spectral Denoise to take the edge off without affecting the sound quality.

Huge thanks to Jozef Becker for letting me borrow and digitize his Thin White Rope videos. This one appears to be a 1st gen VHS dub- the quality is really nice. The audio is not as distorted as most TWR videos!
As I was digging through Wayne’s box of tapes, I came across this one. I knew that there were other soundboard recordings from this night, but I had never even heard about Suicidal being recorded. All of the board tapes from that night were recorded in 1 channel but it is pretty easy to fix that with software now. Not much drums in the mix, so I pushed that and the bass up a bit. Sounds a lot fuller now. from Wayne Vanderkuil’s collection

Here’s a unique set by AC- the biggest Chilton fan/collector I know (Ross Weyman) had never heard him perform the Canned Heat or Professor Longhair covers before. That club looks tiny.

After much ado, here is one from Chris Eng’s collection. I thought I had one ready from him on Monday, only to see that Lord Pryderi already posted it. Then it was a hunt through his boxes of tapes for something that hadn’t been posted before. I found a few, but here is one that I enjoyed. Here’s a show from The Accused during my favorite era- Return of Martha Splatterhead. The channel separation and the lack of distortion makes it sounds like it was recorded on one of those old boom boxes with decent mics. Not saying it sounds particularly great, but it’s not bad and a very early show.
Note: Show was moved to Payne field according to Blaine Cook… and he should know

Huge thanks to Barry Ward for giving the OK for this one to be posted. It is really cool to hear some early RKL sets that sound pretty decent, quality-wise. Punk recordings from the mid-80s were usually sketchy at best. I looked for way too long for a photo of the VIS, which is now The Independent. The best I could find was a pic of the club in 1991, when it was the Kennel Club.
