Here is a really great recording from Doug. He sent me this ticket picture, and followed it up with a story about how he had an unused ticket signed by Tony and Ian. He was in line for the show and he saw a limo go around the arena– a bunch of people followed the car but Doug went the other way around the arena. Long story short, doors were open, security was nowhere to be found, so Doug walked right in and found a room with food… and Ian Gillan/Tony Iommi. He was offered a sandwich by someone, but he declined and got these autographs and left. He realized after that it was Geezer Butler offering him the sandwich. D’oh!
So, Doug went up to the box office and bought another ticket for the show (remember those times? ahhh, the good old days) and has this one as a keepsake. What a story!
As for the show, it sounds pretty damned good for that place. I have never heard a Sabbath live set with Gillan, and it’s pretty good. He absolutely kills on Ozzy’s songs, and Dio’s are…interesting. They had radically different vocal styles, so they are pretty different interpretations.
Doug mentioned that the band got there very late, and it sounds like they may not have had an adequate soundcheck. It takes a bit to get the mix right in the room.
