Mr. Bungle- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca. 3/1/91 xfer from band VHS tape Mike Patton

Here’s an exciting one- an uncirculated Mr. Bungle video from that same 3/1/91 show as my other posts! This is before the release of the 1st album, so you get a mix of album tracks and stuff from their demos. I prefer the demos, but I’m sure most of you will like it all.
From the collection of Eddie Jorgensen- drummer for opening band Chomphard

Deli Creeps- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca. 3/1/91 Xfer from Band VHS Tape Buckethead

Huge thanks to Eddie Jorgensen for trusting me with his video tapes. Here is 8 minutes of Deli Creeps’ set from an amazing bill featuring Chomphard, Mr. Bungle and Disciples of Ed. This is a transfer from a 30 year old tape that was dubbed in EP/SLP mode, which sat in a garage for years. Please excuse the slight flaws.
This video is wild- buckethead gets stuck on top of his full stack of amps and tries to climb down, and FALLS BACKWARD onto part of the drums… without missing a thing. It happens at about 1:57 in. The band doesn’t miss a beat. Unreal.
PS: Why is everyone wearing aprons?

Live Concert Video

Lung Butter- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca 1/25/91 xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced East Bay Punk

It’s Wednesday, so let’s continue the weekly Arica Pelino video posts. Not much info out there about Lung Butter- they recorded their demo at Gilman and played some shows there. They put out 1 demo which is what the facebook pic image is from. Members were: Sean on Guitar and Vocals, Russ on Bass and vocals, Jason on Drums. Kind of like the TM Doug post yesterday, there appears to be zero videos of this band on YT. Thanks Arica for filming and sharing!

Econochrist- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca 1/25/91 xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced East Bay Punk

Another Wednesday, another rare as hell Arica Pelino video. This one is an apparent uncirculated Econochrist video from that same show as Lung Butter. Same with a lot of Arica’s video, this one sounds ok- not distorted. Nice closeups. Thanks Arica!

Chronic Decay- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca 1/2/91 xfer f/ Master VHS tape Enhanced Manteca band

Here’s the first full show video from Arica Pelino’s collection. Chronic Decay were from Manteca (if my halfass Discogs sleuthing is correct, but it may not be- they are listed as a heavy metal/thrash band) and were clearly influenced by bands like Victims Family- jazz punk sound. Really great stuff!
If this is the Manteca band on discogs, members may/may not have been:
Bass, Vocals – Acy Guin
Drums – Mark
Lead Guitar – Paul

One last thing- I know that this has VHS copy-looking degeneration. It’s a master tape because A) Arica told me that she taped it herself and B) It was mastered in 6 hour (SLP) mode. Even oriringal recordings can have that shadowing in SLP mode. Lighting comes up at about the 28:00 mark and looks much better. Sounds great- love those old VHS camcorders.

Bad Religion- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca 1/2/91 xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced

It’s Friday! Man, what a long week. Here’s a pretty cool one from Arica Pelino’s suitcase of goods- a Bad Religion set that she filmed back in 1991. The audio is really good on this for a camcorder- like I mentioned before, some of those old VHS camcorders had solid mics. The camerawork and lighting get much better about 7 minutes in. BR fans will dig it. Thanks Arica!

Chomphard- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca. 3/31/90 Multicam w/ Soundboard Audio xfer from band’s VHS

Here’s something you don’t see every day- a multicam video from phoenix theater from 30 years ago. People filming with this type of quality on location was kind of unheard of back then. There were a couple but they were for community cable shows. There are no credits on this one, so it is hard to tell if this was ever aired or if it was just hobbyists. Cool regardless.
There was a really bad hum in the audio so I extracted it and used Izotope’s de-hum feature which kicks ass.
From Eddie Jorgensen’s archive. He is the long haired drummer. 🙂

From eddie: This particular show was Disciples Of Ed (DOE), The Louies, Hood House, and Chomphard at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, CA, Show was sold out and was an all local show.
