Man, I love it when these enhancements turn out nice. Here is an old MTX show from 1988, brightened/increased exposure and denoised. I also have a 1st gen soundboard tape, right off of Radley’s hifi VHS master that could be synched with this- does anyone want to help?

This is one of the rare early gilman videos that was somewhat well-lit, plus we had a decent quality soundboard recording to synch with it. We tried to synch this twice and did not have any luck- it would fall out of alignment as audio sources tend to do. But Kingbean was finally able to make it work. I need to apologize to Dr. Frank- he has been posting some of these songs to his “Song for Odin” series, but they were with the inferior audio from the camera. PS: I love this era of MTX, probably my favorite.

Here’s a little MTX for today’s On This Date in History. It comes from Jim Utz’ collection that I digitized years ago. It’s only 9 minutes, I am not sure if there is more out there somewhere. There were not many people documenting these smaller punk bands in the late 80s. There was Jim Utz in St. Louis, me in Sac/Bay Area, this guy who filmed the Anthrax shows, and a few others. Video Louis was in L.A. starting in the early 80s, thank goodness he captured that scene so thoroughly. Grateful to all of you guys for documenting it all. I love this era of MTX. Jon Von was great in the band.

Here is one from Chris Eng’s collection that I had always thought that he taped. It looks exactly like the videos his camera would produce, from the same angle. Years ago, I digitized a copy of the AOD set from this show for Bruce Wingate and it was pretty clear that a guy named Peter Conheim filmed it. I asked Chris Eng and he confirmed. He even went to junior high with the guy. Small world. Anyway, this is a really nice quality EARLY MTX set. The board mix is not great and if people make enough noise, I might try to rebalance it. I love the era with Jon Von and this might be the best document of it.
