Alright, here is a video that is WAY more entertaining than that snooze of a super bowl game. Last weekend, I went to see my friend Charlie’s band called Slamtaro. I had heard his band Anime Aliens before, so I was kinda expecting something in that vein. Um, no. This was the most insane sh*t I have ever seen. I was wondering what the hell I got myself into about 10 minutes into the set. Just watch/listen. The mics are high quality- all of that distortion was coming from the stage. Oh, there is bass and drums too.

Here is the last in the series of the Local Show backlog- you will still see stuff I filmed at the regularly scheduled interval, haha. This band opened the Slamtaro show about a week back. It was their first show, and what a nice surprise. To my knowledge, we have not had a horror punk band in Sac since Strange Party called it quits about 5 years ago. Good songs, vocalist can actually sing, I’m all in. I will definitely make an effort to see the band again. I didn’t even realize my friend Penelope was in the band because it was so dark back there. She came up to say hi after the show and that was a nice surprise.
Oh, and it took me about 30 seconds to fix my recording levels so stick with it.

Aw man. I was so busy today that I didn’t get the Friday video posted. Here it is at the high-peak hour of 1am. I hope people see it tomorrow… A trip to the bay area with the kids followed by a show at Gilman threw me late. Here is the Avengers’ set at the cafe last December. I also have the Zeros 77 set, but I am still waiting for the OK to post that one. This only has 3 cameras at the request of the artist- no side stage cameras.

I had been looking forward to this show since it was announced- Zeros, Avengers and Divided Youth at the cafe. I was shocked that this lineup was playing such a small room. This was my first time seeing the Zeros and they were fantastic. Another big surprise was Ronnie Barnett coming up to play “Beat Your Heart Out” with the band (the song is a Zeros song that The Muffs covered in the early days). That’s probably as close as I will get to seeing The Muffs again… thanks Robert, Hector, Lety(from Schizophonics) and the band for permission to video and being all around nice people. Appreciated it.

We continue with the run of shows I filmed. Regular programming will probably resume mid next week. If you enjoy early hardcore like D.R.I.’s first album, you should not miss this band. Absolutely ripping tight hardcore from these youngsters. They have Sacramento punk roots- Tommy(Vocals) is the son of Brian Hanover (Whiskey Rebels, Hanover Saints, Union Hearts) and I think that one of the other member’s dad/relative is Jesse Mitchell from Kill the Precedent. Right when they started, one of the drummer’s cymbals falls over. I hope my gopro stand didn’t contribute to that mishap- yikes.

I posted this one a month or 2 ago and I tried to use pluraleyes to prep the audio files for matrix’ing. Well, that didn’t work so here is that show again with schoeps (only) audio.
This was a show that I really wanted to attend but I had some family conflicts and figured it wasn’t happening. The family event ended earlier than expected, so I grabbed a camera and the schoeps and got to the cafe right toward the end of Lightweight’s set. Man, that band’s new songs are great. I had not seen/heard them in over a year. I wish I could have caught the set- next time. This was an LP release show for Hotbods and Build Us Airplanes. They both sounded great, but this was the loudest Cafe show I have ever attended. You know that feeling when your earplugs are overwhelmed and it is STILL too loud despite them being in your ears? Well, that was this show. Still great, but the neighbors (the club is close to residential) couldn’t be too happy.
Q: Are all of your videos going to disappear? A: No, they are on Youtube (3 cameras and a microphone channel) with a wordpress internet frontend (sacramentomusicarchive dot com). I use FB to announce videos only.
Q: Since your old account has disappeared from FB, will the Sacramento Music Archive FB group disappear as well? A: No. A couple years back, I made two close friends admins on the Sac Music Archive FB group, in case this ever happened. According to facebook, even if a group creator’s account goes “poof”, the group lives on. I am an admin on the new/temp account.
Q: I sent you a PM and have not heard back. Can you see it? A: No. All of my PMs are gone. Please friend me at the account above and PM me again. Sorry.
Q: Have you given up on getting your old account back? A: No. I have a hard time accepting injustice and I probably will spend way too much time trying to get my account back… and find a way to punish the hacker if at all possible.
Alright, on to the video. This was without a doubt the LOUDEST show I have ever seen/heard at the cafe. As they were playing, I was worried about what the neighbors were thinking lol. (The club has an early curfew due to being in a semi-residential area).
But as you can hear, the band sounded really great. They have a new album out called “All Things Expire”- their first release in 13 years! Nice to have them active again.

Last night, I discovered that today’s “on this day” post I had prepped actually took place on 2/14… so I am still working on a new old one. Here is your Saturday video while I work the other one. Here is a great blurb written by Aaron Cometbus about VC: “Three members of Violent Coercion went on to form Neurosis, the fourth drew the cover of the first Neurosis LP, and the fifth ended up in Samiam. Talk about an all-star cast.” -Aaron Cometbus, 2018
The band released a demo tape called House of Terror in 1985, played a bunch of shows, and then broke up and went on to do Neurosis, Samiam, Attitude Adjustment, etc. They are back and have released an album (limited to 100!) called Still Time. Their next show is opening for Final Conflict at the Ivy Room this coming Friday, Feb 7.

This is an unusual one. The stage at the cafe is a bit small, so Sammy decided to perform on the (dark) floor in front of the stage. So this video is mostly his band playing with an occasional Sammy silhouette singing. Haha. Oh well, they all can’t be perfect.

Last month, my friend Miski and her band City Mouse came to town for the first time in a little over a year. The band has a new LP done- the street date is 9/5 I think, but you can get early access to buy a copy if you join her Patreon.. which is what I did. It looks like you can also pre-save on Spotify, if you like to support that evil empire. The new album is called “So Far Out”, go look it up along with the last one “Get Right”- great stuff! This show was special because Davey Tiltwheel was back on a guitar, after missing the Old I show last year due to some health issues. He adds quite a bit with his lead playing. We also get a cameo from Jen from Hammerbombs (and one of City Mouse’s bass players) for a song or 2. Fun night! The only complaint I had was with the vocals being buried in the mix in the club. Anonymous always gets the best possible sound in his recordings as he focuses on standing in the best sounding spot vs. my spot which needs to work for video. Bummer
