Hi Everyone, it’s Kilslug Sunday! Here is the last in this series of Kilslug shows, again from Boston. Man, I wish they would have played California at some point. This coming week, I plan to pull out some single cam & multicam videos that we filmed/finished editing but for one reason or another never posted. It should be a good time.

For those unfamiliar with the genius of Kilslug, I have a story for you. Back in the 80s, we had no internet to give us instant music recommendations. I was a big fan of Ron Quintana’s Metal Mania zine and would pay close attention to their record reviews. They reviewed Kilslug’s “Answer the Call” and called it “Death Death Metal”. I was like, holy shit, how heavy can this be? So I bought it and brought it home…. and I was like “What the fuck is this SHIT?”. It was this dirge of noise and Larry Lifeless’ wailing about being a worm and stuff. Over time, I forced myself to listen to it because I spent money on it… and I started to like it. I have been a fan ever since. In the early 90s, I found a cassette trader with a bunch of Kilslug master audio recordings so I snagged them all. It looks like only 1 or 2 are on YT so far, so you all get to be abused with Kislug the rest of the week. Listen to the “Answer the Call” album for the properly recorded versions of these songs.

Here’s a late one from Jason Ross’ collection. I pulled another few tapes to digitize and had no idea that this was a board tape until I ran it. Drums and vocals were pretty maxed out on this one so I did my best to put some guitars in there. The guitar is a bit too loud for the first few minutes and then the mix settles in.
Kinda wild that they have been at it for 40 years.
Oh, and the person in this image doesn’t have anything to do with the Queers. It was one of the only old photos I could find of the club.

Man, kinda slim pickings for today’s On This Date in History. Usually when I check a certain date on the audio list, there are about 30 things to choose from and something always jumps out at me to post. Not this time.
After digitizing this one, I am glad I picked it. It was a little muddy and guitars were distant, but I was able to EQ it and make it sounds pretty nice. The taper used a Nak Cm300- I had a set of them in the 90s and loved them. Robyn’s vocals could come up a bit, but otherwise nice. And it was 40 years exactly to the day!
Check out that concert listing. This show (w/Scruffy the Cat opening) for $7.50. Johnny Cash (Pre-Rick Rubin career resurgence) and a bunch of other cool shows at the casino.
Robyn Hitchcock and REM fans should subscribe to the blog or youtube channel. I have something REAL cool to post next weekend!
