Man, I love this band. They have that genuine rural sound- it just sounds like woodland/winters, ca. to me. Kinda like Uncle Tupelo sounded like rural Illinois, these guys sound like rural sacramento valley. This was the best show I have ever seen of them and the crowd went nuts. It was like 1,000,000 degrees in the colony. Also, the colony’s PA is having some issues so vocals sound a bit blown out.

What a day this was. I got to the venue SUPER early and peeked through the front window and was surprised to see Dean setting up merch. I squeeze through the locked gate and get into the venue lobby- Dean was super nice. I was thrilled when they gave permission to shoot this video. On the downside, the show was sold out and the crowd was super annoying. There was a high percentage of handlebar moustached, skinny jeans wearing hipsters hanging about. One of them gave me an unsolicited poke in the midsection and commented on my weight. Who the hell does that? Anyway, the video turned out great. Filmed with a Canon HFG30 with Rode video pro stereo mic, a Canon HFG10 at the back of the venue, and a gopro hero4 on the side of the stage. Thanks to Sam Habash for the edit(his first edit ever!) and to Alex Kim for watching the back angle.

Work and family have been taking up most of my time lately so I have not had much time to go to shows. I *really* wanted to see Cross Class at least once, and this was my last chance. I thought I would be too late to see them, but Matt Marrujo let me know that they weren’t going on until 9. So I left OV at 8:35 to make a 9pm start. I hauled ass down the freeway and got there at about 5 after 9. Sure enough, they were already playing so I just pulled my camera out and started filming immediately, which is why you see green video for the first minute(white balance) and audio in only one channel. I managed to get 8 minutes, which is about half the set. Glad I went- they are great.

Listen Up! Sacramento presents Kennedy Wrose performing in the Access Sacramento studio. Recorded 7/11/17.
Born Eugene Kennedy Clarke, hip-hop recording artist Kennedy Wrose grew up and currently resides in Sacramento, Ca. It wasn’t until high school hip-hop started to influence his life and that’s when he wrote his first rap. You wouldn’t be able to tell by listening to his music, but rapping didn’t come naturally to Wrose. It took many afternoons freestyling to a beat in the car to develop his skill as a rapper. Even when Wrose would stumble on his words, his friend always encouraged him to keep going—after a while Wrose was able to freestyle entire songs. He later gave himself the name T.h.e. G.i.f.t. which is an acronym for ‘To Heaven and Earth God Is Forever the Truth.’
Listen Up! Sacramento presents Sactown Playboys performing in the Access Sacramento studio. Recorded 7/11/17.
“The Sactown Playboys represent a bold new chapter in our region’s proud history of western swing music. Not only do these fellas incorporate songs and sounds from the Texas tradition, but they also honor this area’s own heritage by paying tribute to such giants as Billy Jack Wills, Tiny Moore, and even the mid-century sounds of “King of Western Swing” Bob Wills whose Sacramento based bands constitute a sizable influence upon these upstart firebrands.”
Live at Goldfield Trading Post, Sacramento. 4 cam edit. Special thanks to Ryan Sutherby for sharing his camera angle. Check out the Melvins movie he produced: http://melvinsmovie.com/
