Another later than usual post today. The internet on my home PC decided to stop working. Stupid Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface, wasting my time. Here’s the other Freewheelers video that Steve taped. This one is a bit of a mystery, but from the easy-up style stage, it might be one of those industry only Warner lot shows.

OK, I lied yesterday. I have 2 more Slim’s posts. Here’s the first one.
My memory is fuzzy on this show. I can’t remember how I made it happen, but I did get permission to record this show through the board. I was almost always told “no” by SV. I think it was because Slim’s had a nice sound system. One funny point about this show- SV’s notoriously grumpy (to me at least) soundman back then, Gary Scheppers, told me to squeeze behind him to plug into the board. He is a big guy, and I was deceptively big back then. We both got wedged in between the back wall of the booth and soundboard. flailing around trying to get unstuck. HAHA, it was funny. He moved to let me in after that. I was plugged into the output of the cassette deck, which is why you hear the cut at 45min. It was for the tape flip.

Oh shit, I forgot to post the collections post today. It’s been busy and that RHCP post got a lot of people talking- so cool!
This one is from my collection and I bought it a while back while trolling Ebay for unique stuff… and this is DEFINITELY unique. Haha. When I bought this, I was expecting to get a DAT full of either previously released material (it’s my way of gambling), or maybe some unreleased tracks. What I didn’t expect was a “this is how the sausage is made” live DAT recording of them in the studio dissecting a single song. It’s both maddening and fascinating.
Full disclosure- not a great white/jack russell fan. I liked the first EP right when it came out, but I started listening to heavier/better stuff right after… then I read “killer show” later in life and got to know the real Jack Russell. I don’t believe in afterlife, but I sure hope it exists for his sake!

Today is Dal Basi day- his collection is up for posting today. If you don’t know Dal, you should. He runs one of the best record stores in Sacramento, Phono Select. He is from Stockton and his tape collection is a treasure trove of Stockton/sacramento and east bay punk bands. I posted 1 video from this band- SO – many years ago from Steve Rogers’ video collection. They consist of Duby War (Surrogate Brains) was on bass, Johnny Cruz on guitar and vocals, Tony Muth (Fang, and the underrated Moist) on drums, and Matt. I don’t know anything about Matt. I tried calling Dal but he must be busy selling records or something. The band is very good. I don’t really know why they didn’t get more traction.

I have 2 short ones from Eggplant for you today. Don’t get used to it, this is probably the only “2 for Tuesday” I will ever do. In fact, I didn’t even plan a 2fer today, but there 2 are short ones uploaded and it is Tuesday. The first one is a very unique performance- Erik Core is a guy (and a band) who have been around since the early 90s. Joan Jett Blakk is a former candidate for president (1992). Here is a snip from JJB’s wikipedia page: “Terence Alan Smith, also known as “Joan Jett Blakk”, is an activist, political candidate, and drag queen from Detroit, Michigan. Smith is an African-American actor, writer, and political candidate. Smith, as Joan Jett Blakk, first came to national attention when running for president of the United States in 1992.”

It’s been a bit since I posted anything from Robert Eggplant’s tapes, so here is one for you. I have a bunch of stuff of his ready to be posted, so be ready for a weekly drip of Gilman soundboards for at least the next year or so. I had not heard of Stone Fox before, but I had seen their bassist Janis Tanaka perform in other bands. She has played in a bunch of them, including L7 and P!nk. This mix has everything in a decent balance, but it still has a harsh sound to me. I think they played pretty loud, so that could be why.

I occasionally troll Ebay and look for interesting items to pick up to digitize and share on the archive. Sometimes they are better than expected, such as the Juni Bravo archive with all of that cool Exploited stuff. Others are like this- looked cool, but it seems to be not that different than the album. This is a final(?) mix cassette of the MD.45 Album The Craving. MD.45 was a side project for megadave and Lee Ving of Fear. I can’t tell a big difference between this and the (Lee Ving version of the) album. The one difference is the last 3 songs on this tape were mashed up to create the Segue (instrumental) track from the original release. Maybe someone can tell me if there are any other discernible differences.
