Jonathan Segel- UC Davis Coffeehouse 4/7/89 master video tape xfer enhanced Camper van Beethoven

The first minute of this video is a very short clip of Screaming Trees from Aggie Hotel from April of 89. It was so dark and there was no place to shoot from, so I gave up.
This Jonathan Segel show was the first time that I got to see him perform live. I had no idea that he was no longer in Camper van Beethoven, so when I went full fanboy and started gushing about the band he just said “I’m not in the band anymore.”. Whoops. Nice set by JES, doing songs off of his Storytelling album along with a couple of Camper songs he wrote. This is the first show where I used a mic other than the garbage stock one- it only took me a year to figure out that the camera mic unplugs and I can plug in a better one.
This was also one of those life-changing shows where you go to see one artist, and another band plays that blows you away. The Donner Party headlined this show and I couldn’t believe how great they were. I wanted to video, but they had already started playing and filming without permission felt wrong. Man, I wish I had filmed that set.

Collections post from Craig Hilmer’s collection. He has so much great stuff on these tapes. I was EQ’ing this and stumbled upon a Reivers local radio thing on the end of this tape. After such a crap day, it was nice to find some good stuff. Thanks Craig!

Screaming Trees- Aggie Hotel, Davis Ca. 4/6/89 xfer from master Audiocassette Live Mark Lanegan

There was some discussion on the Davis fb group about this show and I was cleaning up the studio, so I decided to pop this in and digitize it while I worked. It doesn’t sound too bad, given the aggie really had no sound system (just a PA) and my friend was using a non-professional tape deck. I remember talking to Gary from the band outside and him being super cool in general, and allowing us to audio and videotape. I bailed on video as there was no lighting, but my friend ran audio. Here is the transfer from his tape.
