AC/DC- Arco Arena, Sacramento Ca 12/12/90 lossless xfer from 8mm master 1080p Enhanced Full Show

I wasn’t planning on posting this one until next weekend, but I forgot to upload my planned post and I have things to do. Also, AC/DC is playing out west for the first time in years next weekend, so this is a good way to prepare.
Gary Shurtleff came by last weekend and dropped about 100 master videotapes with me to digitize. He shot this from the back of Arco Arena in the front row of the upper deck. No obstructions! I still marvel at the fact that he could cram that huge camcorder down his pants and then film the entire show without being caught.

Love/Hate- Arco Arena, Sacramento Ca 12/12/90 xfer from 8mm master Hard Rock Metal

For today’s collection post, I pulled one from ⁨@bootlegcowboys⁩ collection to share. This is the opener for that AC/DC show I shared last month. I guess they decided to go with a “slash in band names” themed tour. Haha.

Metallica- Arco Arena, Sacramento Ca. 12/12/88

My friend Gary Shurtleff let me know that this was just posted, and I have a funny story about this show. I *really* wanted to tape the show, but I did not have a decent audio recorder at the time. I borrowed my friend’s (anonymous) crappy audio recorder and snuck it in. While I was taping metallica, I got busted by the usher. She grabbed me firmly by the arm and walked me down to the main security. They took my recorder, but I pocketed the tape before I gave it up. I got the tape home and it was complete distortion.

So yesterday, a listenable recording of the same show pops up. I have no idea who taped it- it doesn’t sound like a Karl Lundmark tape. But here you go- Metallica on the AJFA tour.

Aerosmith- Arco Arena, Sacramento Ca 1/24/88 xfer from master audio cassette

I am usually not good about posting stuff on the anniversary of a performance, but I did this one for a couple reasons:
First, Jim Edwards recently reached out to me and let me know that he taped some shows around Sacramento back in the 1980s. I have 2 tapes with 3 bands so far, with(hopefully) more to come. Thanks Jim! This is one of those 3 sets.

The second reason is a bit more personal. Today is my Mom’s birthday, and she would have been 73 if she was still alive. She passed in 2006 (at 55, younger than I am now) due to cancer. She was not married in ’06 and I am her only child, so it was me and my aunt (and another friend) taking care of her for the last year… so I got a front row seat into the whole diagnosis/treatment/hope/decline spiral. Don’t smoke, kids.
Aerosmith was her favorite band- she would crush on Steven Tyler and she would see them whenever they were in Sacramento. In fact, I bet she was at this show.
This is the first hour of the show. Jim thinks he has part 2, so I will share that once it is found.

Dokken- Arco Arena, Sacramento ca 1/24/88 xfer from master audio cassette Aerosmith

Here is the last Jim Edwards recording for now. Let’s hope that he uncovers some more tapes- he mentioned that there may be more.
This is Dokken’s opening set for the Aerosmith show that I posted a couple of weeks back.
Someone on youtube was asking about this set- he said that Dokken and George Lynch were as far apart from each other as possible during the show. It must have been a bummer to be dysfunctional right when you were seeing some popularity.

Soundgarden- Memorial Auditorium, Sacramento Ca. 12/4/96 xfer from 8mm master enhanced 1080p upscale

It’s Christmas Eve, so I figured that I would get this one out early, before all of the family gatherings. Super bummed to miss the Side Door event last night- sounded like a good one.
Here is one of the last Sacramento videos that I digitized for Gary @bootlegcowboys . I think I have one more and then I am done with “gary’s big bands in big places” project. Check out his channel if you want more.
Nice camera work- some good zoom ups of Thayil’s leads and there was one pan back where I wondered if the camera was on a tripod. Thanks Gary!
