Smitten- 4 Song Demo Mid-1990s xfer f/low gen audio cassette Bay area Shoegaze Indie Rock

This one is from Rick Arroyo’s collection and what you see in the photo was all the info that I had. Thanks to the google copyright algorithm, it ID’d 3 of the tracks. We now know that the band was a San Francisco based indie/shoegaze band and 3 of the tracks are called Broken Flowers, Smitten, and Optimystical. One of these songs might be the same version as on their 1996 “Stellar” CD release. The tape might have 5 tracks- there was one at the end that sounded like the same band, but the production was radically different.

D.H.C.- Who is This Cassette HELP NEEDED to ID Band Punk band rehearsal “Drunken Hard Core”

Here is one from Arica Pelino’s collection that sounds like a punk band rehearsal. I am not too familiar with Dance Hall Crashers but they are a ska band with horns and stuff, right? This can’t be them. Anyway, if anyone can help ID the band, please let me know. Thanks!

We are not sure if the band is DHC and the session is titled “Who is this”, or if Arica was wondering who the hell this is. lol.

Thanks to raintown on YT: Apparently they were an East Bay band called “Drunken Hard Core” or D.H.C. They have one 7 inch titled “Choke to Death” on Discogs. No member listing or anything.

Lois- KALX Acoustic Live in Studio, Berkeley Ca mid 1990s xfer f/KALX archive tape Indie K Records

It’s time for another one from Rick Sylvain’s KALX archive of tapes. There was someone who commented on Youtube and let me know that they were the DJ for these sessions, but I lost track of the person. I think they mentioned that they have complete sessions w/interviews. Please reach out at shaynestacy at hotmail, gmail etc.

Jason Ringenberg- Dutch Radio mid 90s xfer from DAT Clone Scorchers Live Acoustic

Here is that bonus post- a lot of the time, tape traders would fill ends of tapes with samples of other shows, or with random small bits of recordings. This is one of those. The tape was not labeled with a Jason Ringenberg set, but it was right after the Todd Snider I posted earlier.
This doesn’t sound like the same festival that Todd played. If anyone who is fluent in Dutch can help ID this (looking at you ⁨@Isabellaaskaan⁩ ), please let me know.

Moist- Practice, Stockton or Sacramento Ca Mid-1990s xfer from band archive cassette Skirts

A very short collections post from Dal Basi today. Moist consisted of Wendy Powell, Sunita Bhardwaj and Karen Simmons- all of whom formed the Skirts after this band ran its course. I am a huge fan of all things Moist/Skirts, so even a 3 minute rehearsal clip warrants a post!

Plexi- Live at Brownies, New York City 1990 xfer from band promo soundboard tape Sub Pop Indie Rock

Last one for today. This one comes from Anonymous 2’s collection. I still owe you the spreadsheet with all of his tapes- I will do it as soon as possible.

Since Anon 2 was a promoter, he would get all kinds of unique demo tapes from bands. This one from Plexi is written completely in white-out by the band. That’s pretty cool.

Plexi released some singles on small labels, was signed to Sub Pop, released 1 album in 1996, and that was it. They’ve played a few reunion and benefit shows since.

This one sounds pretty good.

As with all Anon 2’s tapes, this one is for sale. Please contact me if interested.

Boiled in Lead- KTCA Public TV Showcase, Minnepolis MN Mid-1990s xfer from Master VHS Tape

Here’s the last one for the weekend, from my collection. I have been getting back into digitizing the older videos I have- I still have a backlog of 4k multicamera videos I could post…
I snagged this one off ebay for virtually no money and then a Boiled in Lead completist messaged me, asking for a transfer. How did the guy even get my info? Along those lines, whoever got the Circle Jerks umatic or any other russ gibb archive tape, let me know. I would be happy to digitize it for you.

GWAR- CH25 Compilation Special, SF xfer from band Barry Ward archive VHS tape Joan Rivers and more

Today has been a bit chaotic so I am doing the collections post first. I still have not done my weekly “About the Sac Music Archive” video- trying for today, might be Sunday. I still need to digitize the On This Day post as well. So, yeah, I’m behind.
I just did a slew of Barry Ward’s VHS tapes and this one is wild. Barry edited this compilation together, as he was in the band for a stretch- I think in the 90s. I don’t know if this has any uncirculated appearances- please let me know if all of this is already out there.
