Victims Family- Big Easy, Petaluma Ca 11/30/24 4K UHD w/Schoeps Audio Early Albums Set Partial 84-94

Alright, this might be a bit long. Also, I adjust my light settings about 15min in so it is a bit brighter from then on.
Here is the first hour of the Victims Family 40th anniversary show from last Saturday night. I had intended to film the entire thing, but my body apparently had other ideas. Here’s what happened.
I get to The Big Easy and I see that there is no stage. In most cases, I could work around that but Ralph has a strict “keep the f*cking cameras out of my face” policy(love you man, just ribbin’ you), which means no gopros on stage/close to the band. So, I brought the 3 DSLR cameras expecting to mount them to the poles in the club, until I saw there was NO STAGE. Plans are trashed- pole mounts won’t work so I use 1 DSLR and stick the monopod in my pocket to get the camera elevation up to the ceiling that I need. The problem with this is that it requires me to stand dead still, since I need to act like a monopod for my monopod or the camera would be swimmin’. I call this “punk rock yoga”
So about an hour into the set, I could feel my energy draining. I did not have time to eat dinner and I was thirsty. I break out into a SEVERE cold sweat and start seeing spots in my eyes. Shit, I am going to pass out. So, I had to go sit down and ask Jennifer to bring me a water (THANK YOU). There was no way to continue filming while sitting down, so off the camera went. The funny thing is that this happened to me once before in 2018, and what was I doing? Filming while staying stock still with a monopod in my pocket! I think I have identified the issue.
Anyway, my apologies, you get the early albums up to Headache Remedy- the first 26 songs. Now I know. Hydrate (I was sober) and bring a protein bar.
At least there is Schoeps audio of the full set.

Victims Family- Big Easy, Petaluma Ca. 11/30/24 Schoeps Audio 40th Anniversary Complete Show

Where do I start with this one. What a show! This was a one-off local headlining show to commemorate their 40 years of being a band, and they made sure that it was a special occasion to celebrate. The band starts with playing songs off of Voltage & Violets- there were so many from the album that I wondered if they were going to play the entire album. Then they moved on to Things I hate to Admit.. and I realized that they were playing songs from each album in chronological order. It was amazing- almost a 2 hour show, easily the longest VF show I have ever seen.
The band was remarkably tight and well-rehearsed. These songs are not easy to pull off, and pulling off about 50 of them had to take a ton of prep. Massive thanks to the band for this gift. It was really amazing. I counted 2 false starts, which warrants an A in my grade book.
The first hour of the show sounds a bit harsh- I had to move to an area to video that was not the best sounding. Vocals are a bit squelchy and guitars were distant. It still sounds good- it’s hard to screw up too bad with these mics. I think it sounds a lot better after I moved back. Apologies for the chatter in the 2nd hour- I had a small health issue and friends were checking on me. More on that when I post the video this weekend. The video is over 95gb- it’s gonna take some time to process

KRS-One: Harlow’s, Sacramento Ca 11/29/24 Digital Master Soundboard Complete Show Conscious

I was at Harlow’s on Friday night for 7 Seconds and JT (John Taylor) saved the day. First, the batteries in my digital recorder (for the soundboard) were dead, and he pulled out 2 AA’s like he was waiting for someone to ask. Thanks John!

He then gives me this USB drive. He told me that it was a recording from a recent KRS-one show, and KRS-one gives him a shout-out from stage because the sound was so great, and the man is right. Holy cow, this things sounds amazing! Thanks again for an awesome gift, John!

The volume took a dip about halfway through the set, then came back up so I fixed that up the best I could. Otherwise, it’s all JT & KRS-one.

OK, Matt Kadi asked me to post this, so you get another thing filmed by me this weekend. But first, here are some “I got hacked” FAQ:

Q: Do you have your account back?
A: No. I opened a new account that I hope is temporary until I get my real one back. You can friend me here if you’d like: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61571139156608

Q: Are all of your videos going to disappear?
A: No, they are on Youtube (3 cameras and a microphone channel) with a wordpress internet frontend (sacramentomusicarchive dot com). I use FB to announce videos only.

Q: Since your old account has disappeared from FB, will the Sacramento Music Archive FB group disappear as well?
A: No. A couple years back, I made two close friends admins on the Sac Music Archive FB group, in case this ever happened. According to facebook, even if a group creator’s account goes “poof”, the group lives on. I am an admin on the new/temp account.

Q: I sent you a PM and have not heard back. Can you see it?
A: No. All of my PMs are gone. Please friend me at the account above and PM me again. Sorry.

Q: Have you given up on getting your old account back?
A: No. I have a hard time accepting injustice and I probably will spend way too much time trying to get my account back… and find a way to punish the hacker if at all possible.

Alright, on to the video. This was without a doubt the LOUDEST show I have ever seen/heard at the cafe. As they were playing, I was worried about what the neighbors were thinking lol. (The club has an early curfew due to being in a semi-residential area).

But as you can hear, the band sounded really great. They have a new album out called “All Things Expire”- their first release in 13 years! Nice to have them active again.

Hotbods- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 11/16/24 4K UHD Complete show Schoeps Audio

I posted this one a month or 2 ago and I tried to use pluraleyes to prep the audio files for matrix’ing. Well, that didn’t work so here is that show again with schoeps (only) audio.

This was a show that I really wanted to attend but I had some family conflicts and figured it wasn’t happening. The family event ended earlier than expected, so I grabbed a camera and the schoeps and got to the cafe right toward the end of Lightweight’s set. Man, that band’s new songs are great. I had not seen/heard them in over a year. I wish I could have caught the set- next time.
This was an LP release show for Hotbods and Build Us Airplanes. They both sounded great, but this was the loudest Cafe show I have ever attended. You know that feeling when your earplugs are overwhelmed and it is STILL too loud despite them being in your ears? Well, that was this show. Still great, but the neighbors (the club is close to residential) couldn’t be too happy.

This is an unusual one. The stage at the cafe is a bit small, so Sammy decided to perform on the (dark) floor in front of the stage. So this video is mostly his band playing with an occasional Sammy silhouette singing. Haha. Oh well, they all can’t be perfect.

Violent Coercion- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 11/8/24 4K UHD Multicam Schoeps Audio East Bay Punk

Last night, I discovered that today’s “on this day” post I had prepped actually took place on 2/14… so I am still working on a new old one.
Here is your Saturday video while I work the other one. Here is a great blurb written by Aaron Cometbus about VC:
“Three members of Violent Coercion went on to form Neurosis, the fourth drew the cover of the first Neurosis LP, and the fifth ended up in Samiam. Talk about an all-star cast.” -Aaron Cometbus, 2018

The band released a demo tape called House of Terror in 1985, played a bunch of shows, and then broke up and went on to do Neurosis, Samiam, Attitude Adjustment, etc. They are back and have released an album (limited to 100!) called Still Time. Their next show is opening for Final Conflict at the Ivy Room this coming Friday, Feb 7.

Tales of Terror- “The Cobain 50” KEXP Podcast 11/6/24

Huge thanks to Marc Malakie for letting me know that this existed. KEXP is doing a podcast series on the 50 bands that influenced Cobain (and others from the grunge scene). This is a really well-done deep dive into the early Sac punk scene, including quotes our friends Dennis Yudt and Rusi Gustafson. RC Boys! Kin’s Coloma! Sacramento Records! So cool.

Thanks to Dusty Henry for mentioning the sac music archive multiple times- his remarks at 24:30 is a nice testimonial for the site. I had no idea and it was pretty validating hearing it mentioned.
