Page Three- Heartbreak Hotel, St. Louis Mo 8/24/84 xfer from Band Beta Master Tape Enhanced

Page Three was a highly-anticipated pop ensemble when it debuted on St. Louis new wave scene in the spring of 1983. Formed by scene regulars Bob Kuhlmann and George Schneller out of the ashes of their beloved power-pop trio Dear John, Page Three combined 60’s pop-inspired sensibility with a stripped-down, hard- edged attack of then-new bands like Joy Division, New Order and Scars. The band also included ex-Ray Milland guitarist Randy Erickson and drummer Kevin Brueseke who kept time with numerous local scene pioneers such as The Cameros, Surgery, Oui-Oui Twins, and the Obvious.

Bob Kuhlmann – (guitars, vocals))
Randy Erickson – (guitars)
Kevin Brueseke – (drums)

Here is a post from a new collection of tapes sent to me by Robert Kuhlmann. There were a bunch of OLD beta tapes in the box- some looked like there may be issues with transferring, but we were able to get them all off the tapes without major issues. Great 80’s alternative/new wave.
Thanks Robert for trusting me with the tapes, and allowing me to post these!

Reagan Youth- Rock Against Reagan, Republican National Convention, Dallas Tx 8/2x/84 SBD

Here is another one that I think is not widely circulated- I can’t find it on youtube and I never saw it on any trade lists back in the 80s/90s tape trading days. Any RY with Dave Insurgent is like gold, even if it is only 7min long.

Cause for Alarm- Rock Against Reagan, Republican National Convention, Dallas Tx 8/2x/84 Soundboard

It’s mediocre Monday! Everyone is asking tons of questions today, making this day truly meh.
Here is another interesting one from Barry Ward’s collection of tapes, and they appear to be somewhat uncirculated (not on youtube at least).
The first one from this tape is Cause for Alarm, playing Rock Against Reagan. It also contains the spoken word/MC’ing of Stoney Burke. Really cool stuff and only mediocre due to the lack of high end, distortion and hiss.

Winterhawk- Chi Chi Club, San Francisco Ca 8/18/84 xfer f/ master cassette tape Native American Rock

Here is a band I had never even heard of, and I was living in the 80s bay area/sacramento metal scene. I dug into their Wikipedia page(!) and found this:
Winterhawk was an American heavy metal band formed in 1978 in San Francisco, California. Fronted by lead vocalist, lead guitarist and songwriter Nik “Winterhawk” Alexander (a Cree musician), the band released two albums via Mother Earth records.
Winterhawk was committed to a native anti-drug movement, pioneering an abstinence-through-music platform that ran parallel to the straight edge hardcore movement. Winterhawk performed in the 1983 US Festival and has opened for Tina Turner, Santana, Country Joe and the Fish, Steve Miller and Van Halen. The band separated in 1984.
Wait, WHAT? First of all, they were the Minor Threat of the Native American rock scene, which is amazing… but they played the US Festival? Maybe I am the one who whiffed on these guys… never heard of ’em.
Anyway, like most of Doug’s tapes, this one was a good candidate for an EQ + rebalance job. The drums were super loud in the mix, so I did what I could with it.
One last thing- also never heard of the Chi Chi club. It was across the street from the Mab/On Broadway and hosted a bunch of dead-related jammy stuff.

Lita Ford- The Stone, San Francisco Ca 8/4/84 xfer from master audio cassette

More Doug for you on this fine Monday. Speaking of Doug, that Slayer Portland Live audio/Photo post from last week appears to have gone viral(or, as viral as these posts get). If anyone knows where it got posted (any big websites), please let me know. It’s been off the charts.
This is another one that EQ’d really nicely- sounds pretty good! Thanks Doug. She does a Beatles cover but no Runaways. Go figure.
The photo comes from the same tour, but no location/venue were ID’d in the pic.
