Accused A.D.- Louie’s Cocktail Lounge, Rancho Cordova Ca 5/4/24 4K UHD Rode Pro Stereo Audio G9ii

This might be a long post. After missing the Punk in the Park and Omega Fest shows yesterday(I had planned to cut over early evening to Omega), I was able to get the kids to bed in time to head over to Louie’s Cocktail Lounge to see Unprovoked and Accused A.D.
I had never been to Louie’s, but it is one of those OLD neighborhood bars that have been around for as long as I can remember. How old? Well, I can’t find that info online but they have not one but TWO bingo nights each week! I ordered a drink (Jack & Coke) which was about 75% jack, 25% coke. Even the melted ice tasted like Jack Daniels, until a drunk guy stumbled over and knocked the plastic cup (no glass-the bar clearly knows their clientele) on the ground. $8 for the alcohol content of 3 drinks in other bars- great value!
On to the venue side of the club- it was way better than I expected. They have a proper stage, lighting and PA. They have one of those black and white checkerboard floors, like the press club used to have. The PA could not quite keep up with Alex’ guitar volume, but it didn’t sound bad at all. The audio level on this is a bit low, but I did not have time to fix it if I wanted to post today. Still need to check the schoeps audio to see if this warrants a repost later.
It was also nice catching up with my long-time friend Loren Scott. We chatted right up until Unprovoked played- he plays bass in the band. I will post more about them when I post that set.
Oh, one last thing- since the drinks were so strong, this was the drunkest crowd I have ever seen. People were stumbling everywhere. After the Accused finished and the house lights came up, this one long-haired metal dude was standing there (well, trying to stand), staring at his hands. He apparently thought that his fingernails were painted in a shade of black (metal approved), but they were instead painted a beautiful shade of blue. Perfect ending to the night. I will definitely come back to Louie’s for another show!

I already talked of the awesome atmosphere that Louie’s provided, but if you missed it, here it is again:

I have been meaning to see the band play for years, and vocalist Darren Chaney had laryngitis! He had no voice when I spoke to him. Then they went on and he sounded fine- it was wild. If it was me, I would just squeak myself through the set.

Michael Dean Damron- Claimstake Brewing, Rancho Cordova, Ca 7/6/23 Schoeps digital master audience

I was planning on posting from another collection today, but we got heartbreaking news about Michael Dean Damron. Most recently, Michael was a solo artist who toured extensively- he played a show here in July of 2023 with Micah Schnabel and Vanessa Jean Speckman. He was also in the alt country band I Can Lick any Sonofabitch in the house from 2002-2013.

Michael passed away today from liver cancer. I was friends with him on facebook but I never got to see him perform, but I kept hearing about how great the shows were and how I should get out to one. Always go to the show, folks.

Thankfully, Anonymous was at his last show here in the Sacramento area. This is a phenomenal recording and performance. Thanks.

I will also post a link to his gofundme. I know he has a daughter, as she was helping her dad while in the hospital.
For folks in Portland, there is a benefit concert this Saturday (May 10) at Star Theater.
For folks outside of Portland, there are a couple of fundraisers that I will paste in facebook comments below

Violence in Bloom- SoundWave, Rancho Cordova Ca. 10/28/94

Since I am working on a project for Gilman’s fundraising board for the next couple days, you get BONUS VIDEOS… but nothing new from me.

The first one is from a club I never knew existed- I lived in L.A. at the time. This building is still there and is now Taiko Sushi over on Folsom Blvd, between Hazel and Sunrise.

Expect a Cattle Club bonus video tomorrow!

Identity Crysis- Mine Shaft, Rancho Cordova 1988 xfer from low gen VHS tape Mystic records

I want to be sure that everyone knows that Ken Doose has a LOT of really great quality Sacramento area stuff in his collection. High quality master audio and video tapes. So, why did I decide to post this as the very first thing from his collection? It’s because Jeff Arellano has been asking me if I had this damned video for like 15 years. HERE. haha. Also, The Mine Shaft was a legendary teen hangout in the 80s and this is the only video I have ever seen from there.
This video was so dark that you could not see anything at all. I was able to fix it up so you can see the band and denoise all of the graininess. Still sounds awful though.
I promise you- great stuff coming from Ken’s collection!

Rad Conspiracy (formerly the RC Boys), Private Toy – Kins Coloma, Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, CA, 5/9/81, Flyer

Submitted by: Lee Osh

Promoter: Jerry Perry Presents

1981rcboys

Dennis Yudt (member of Rad Conspiracy) shares:

The flyer: That was when our band, RC Boys – because we’re all from Rancho Cordova and in high school – decided to change our name. We only played 3-4 shows under that name. Charles Albright put out three songs of ours last year [2018] that were found from an old live show in ’81. Phono Select had them. Jerry Perry was the RC Boys “manager.”

Kin’s Coloma was a Chinese restaurant that us high school kids conned into putting on all-ages shows. They were very awesome people that fed us and gave us beer – at 15/16 years old – which sadly was eventually their demise. I played the show – with 7Seconds – when we were raided by the police for underaged drinking. Basically if you had $3 you could get a pitcher of beer, age didn’t matter. 1981. Crazy times.
