Danzig- Whisky a Go Go, Hollywood Ca 10/14/94 xfer from Hi8 Master Enhanced Stage Shot! Misfits

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I tried transferring that IGD video last night and ran into issues, so here is one from correspondent “french onion soup and kitty litter”, with another amazing Steve Rogers video. This time, he is filming on stage at a Danzig show. I am shocked that Danzig didn’t come over and say something like “I am gonna pound that camera like a jackhammer”.
As always, if anyone has a lead on better audio, I am all up for a synch.

One last thing- the best way to keep up with everything posted is to go to http://www.sacramentomusicarchive.com and sign up for email alerts there. That way you youtube subscribers won’t miss stuff like this!

Danzig- The Stone, San Francisco Ca. 6/18/89 Master Tape xfer Sony Pro Walkman WMD6C Samhain Misfits

OK, time for an old man ramble. I had bought a ticket for this show well in advance, but then I realized that the show was on Fathers Day. A big group from my Dad’s side of the family went to the Giants game, and I went as well. After the game, I had some friends of my dad drop me off at The Stone.. at about 5 or 6pm. I hung out on Broadway street for HOURS, waiting for the doors to open.
Being there by myself was a huge risk, as I had my Sony Pro Walkman with me and security was pretty tight at the club. If I got caught at the door(or while taping), there was no place to me to take my deck. I would be stuck waiting outside. Luckily, I got everything in.
Show was PACKED so I could not get a really good taping spot, but it still sounds pretty good. It was a bit bassy, so I fixed it up a bit in Izotope.
After the show, I was supposed to get a ride with Mark Martin but I could never find him. I panicked and went with Greg Johnson instead. Mark called me the next day SO pissed off- they waited for an hour after the show, trying to find me. I’m still sorry about that.

Danzig- The Stone, San Francisco Ca 1/5/89 xfer f/ master audio cassette Sony WMD3 Metallica Encore

OK, going out on a limb today and will give this one a shot.
If you are one of Danzig’s employees and you want this removed, please contact me at shaynestacy@hotmail.com and I will pull it down right away — no need to get the copyright cops involved. Plus, you are getting paid for the views on this anyway…
I actually have 2 master tapes of this show here in the studio. This one, taped by Gary Shurtleff, and one by Anonymous. They are both nice quality, but it’s Gary’s turn for a post today, so up his goes.
The image is the actual setlist from that night, signed by the band AND James and Kirk from Metallica, who played on the encore. Cool!
I put more work than usual in to make this one sound good. The ol’ EQ PLUS Izotope workup.

Danzig- The Ritz, New York City 12/2/88 xfer f/1st gen audio cassette Samhain Misfits Complete

Here’s another one that the On This Date Project was able to dig out of the ocean of tapes over here- a complete set from Danzig, taken from a copy off George Norton’s master tape.

The tape isn’t without flaws. The first 6 minutes of the tape is badly damaged. If you can’t take the quality early on, forward to 6 minutes and issues resolve. Back in the days of 1980’s tape trading, we used some cheap tape decks to copy tapes. We would use high speed dubbing to get the job done quickly. Tape trading at the time was for fun so if a tape was sped up or damaged like this one, we wouldn’t think much of it. Now I wish I had asked george for a clean re-dub of this one. Dammit.

Great set with Misfits and Samhain “covers”.

Glenn Danzig- WVVX Interview, Chicago Il 11/12/88 xfer from 1st gen audio cassette Misfits Samhain

I was going to post a Roky Erickson video for today’s On This Date in History to make up for the delay on the Patreon Voter’s Choice that Roky won (more on that later), but it was already out there. Sigh.
This one should appeal to the hardcore Danzig fans- I traded with someone in Chicago back in the 80s- they would send me those awesome WXRT live broadcasts and other cool stuff taped off the radio. This is one of those- a Danzig interview when he was “up and coming” according to the interviewer. Classic.

Danzig- City Gardens, Trenton NJ 4/9/88 Audio only xfer from 1st gen cassette FIRST SHOW EVER

Carl Sylvester asked me to digitize this one a few months back, and it finally got to the top of the list. I traded with a really cool and dependable guy named George Norton (not sure if my FB friend is the same guy). He taped a ton of city gardens & NYC punk/hardcore shows.
He taped Danzig’s first show at City Gardens and sent me a copy pretty much immediately. We listened to it about 50 times before the debut LP came out 4 months later. Good times. Note the track listing on the cassette J-card, we didn’t even know the name of most of the new songs yet.

Danzig- WTSR-FM Interview w/Randy Now, Trenton NJ 4/5/88 1st int as Danzig the band

I wasn’t planning to post this today, but Randy Now (legendary booking agent of City Gardens) asked me for it. We all owe people like Randy and Sacramento’s own Stewart Katz a huge debt of gratitude. They were the promoters who found venues and booked punk bands into those venues back when no one else would, which “trailblazed” a circuit of clubs that allowed bands like Black Flag, D.O.A., DKs and others to tour the United States in the very early 1980’s. And Randy did all of this on top of being a mail carrier during the day!
In this interview, Randy mentions that Glenn had not done an interview for a long time. I assume this is the first interview as the band Danzig. Randy also booked Danzig(the band)’s first show ever at City Gardens the next month, in May of 1988. You can find that City Gardens set on sacramento music archive as well.
Now, if Glenn would just pick up the damned phone…
