Pat Travers Band- Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca 10/17/24 4K UHD Multicam w/ Matrix and Schoeps audio

I know that today’s post is a bit of a departure from the typical metal and punk posts every day… but my long time friend (from high school!) Loren Scott put out a call for someone to video the show, so I obliged. I am glad I did- this show was spectacular! The way that Pat and bass player David Pastorius (Jaco’s nephew) jam together, it’s like they share a brain. It’s amazing to watch. David is a bass master.
It took us a while to get this posted because we had one hell of a hard time with the audio. The soundboard was mastered at 96khz and ever after I dithered it down to 48, it would NOT synch with any of the other sources. Pluraleyes couldn’t do it and I couldn’t do it manually. I was able to get the first 35min of the show aligned and the rest is schoeps audio. I spent the good part of TWO DAYS trying to get this to work. Ugh. It still sounds good throughout. You can hear the sources fall out of synch at about the 35 minute mark, right before we cut over to schoeps-only audio.
Fun fact- I had no classic rock shirts to wear to the show, so I pulled out my Roky Erickson shirt and still stood out. lol.
Oh, one more fun fact. I had a +1 so I asked Wayne Triggs if he wanted to go. He didn’t know what he was getting into. I started to get set up for Travers and I realized I left my gopros at home! Thank goodness this show was at the Boardwalk (5min away) or I would have been toast. Thanks to Wayne for the help- he scrambled and drove me there and back.

Joe Fraulob’s birthday Jam- The Boardwalk, Orangevale 3/16/24 4K UHD Def Leppard Judas Priest Pt 2

Here is the Second installment from Joe Fraulob’s birthday last weekend.
There were 4 different lineups who played a mini set each. I will post each lineup’s set separately. This set had Mike Parisi on drums, Carlos Yniguez on vocals, Jud Wheeler on guitar and Bobby Real on bass.
Man, the schoeps sound nice in that room. Looking forward to recording more shows there. Derek Clark and his partner, along with the staff there have completely transformed the club into something… warmer. No dig on Mark, it’s just got that Hawaiian laid back vibe now. I really enjoyed it. They even have tropical/theme drinks for each show!

Joe Fraulob’s birthday Jam-The Boardwalk, Orangevale 3/15/24 4K Black Sabbath set pt 2

After fighting with my ancient Windows 7 PC for a good part of the weekend, I downloaded Vegas 18 so I can finally import/edit files from the new G9ii camera, so expect some sweet schoeps synched vids next weekend. Man, that new camera is NICE.
Here is the last video from Joe Fraulob’s birthday jam a couple months back. This was supposed to be the complete version of the longest section of the night, but for some reason, only the last 30min rendered. I will post up the full hour at some point.
Band is Bobby Real, Ash Hades, Tom Frost along with Joe

It’s been a bit since I posted a set from this show, and it has been almost a month since the show took place. This was the first set of the Jam- I walked in during the first song and it took me a bit longer to get the gear ready. Cuts in on the 3rd song of the set.
The members in this part of the jam are: Jerry Woods, Rob Sabino, Kelly Smith, Johnny Eye.

Tracks:
Midnight Rider (Allman Brothers) w/Guy Jones on Vocals
Funk 49 (James Gang)
Oh Well (Fleetwood Mac)

I still have 1 or 2 parts of this to post- it was a long show! More next weekend, probably.

Bleeding Through- Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca. 6/30/18 Live Multicam

Here’s the Bleeding Through set from Boardwalk a couple of months back. That side stage angle has a spotlight shining RIGHT into it(odd lighting), but it is such a cool angle that we used it anyway. It really shows the intensity of the band. That was probably the most energetic keyboard player I have ever seen.

Cemetery Legacy- Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca 12/2/17 Canon HFG30 Rode VPS Mic

I got to the boardwalk right before Cemetery Legacy was about to play. I was not planning to video, but I saw that Augustin Rivera was in the band, and we were friends from high school so I though I would do a single cam video for them. It was nice to see Aggie after all these years- he still sounds the same! OK, I need to be honest. I like Pop Punk, old school punk, and older metal along with other non-metal stuff. This new tuned down and growl like cookie monster stuff is not my thing, but the crowd went nuts and seemed to like them, so it must be alright. 🙂 The lighting at Boardwalk is always a challenge, but it turned out ok. Enjoy! I also filmed Dissident Aggressor with 4 cameras. That one won’t be ready for a while, but I will post it as soon as it is.

HOODS- Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca. 9/27/17 LIVE Multicam Hardcore Canon HFG30 Rode VPS Mic

Man, what a night this was. I got to the venue right when they opened and set up my pole mounts, then went to dinner with my family. On the way home, we ran over a pocket knife/allen wrench and it stuck in our tire. So after dealing with the tire change I got there right before HOODS played. They were great, too bad the attendance was a bit light. We need more people to show up to shows in the suburbs! 4 camera multicam: 2 Canon HFG30, 1 HFG10, 1 Gopro hero 4 silver. Audio via Rode Video Pro Stereo Mic. Mix by my good friend Agelos. Thanks!

OFF! – Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca 11/15/16 HD Multicam w/Matrix Audio partial Keith Morris

OK kids, settle in. Gramps is going to go on for a bit.
Back in 2016, I went to Keith’s book signing at Dimple Records (R.I.P.) and asked if I could video their show at the Boardwalk that night. He referred me to the “documentary guys”. So I get to the club and find out that they are filming a mockumentary about OFF!, called Watermelon. At first, the crew was all “we think we have this handled. what kind of gear do you have”. I opened my camera backpack and they stared at the crazy guy with all this high end (at the time) gear. I got permission to film, provided that I hand them the footage for the movie. I sent it over to them in late 2016.

7 years go by and OFF! releases the Free LSD movie and breaks up. I assume that this is what the mockumentary became and that Watermelon was never going to be released. So I email the producer and no… they are still planning to release Watermelon and Free LSD was a different project entirely. They ask that I continue to hold back the footage, but I can post a few songs if I’d like.

So that brings us to today. Dean Crist asked for this one and Derek Clark was interested as well. This was back when I could pole mount cameras at the Boardwalk, haha. Anyway, the full show exists and I should be able to share once the movie is released.

Equipment used: I don’t remember all of it, but it definitely used Canon HF G30 and maybe a G50, along with gopro Hero 4 silver.
Audio was probably a matrix of the Rode Videomic Pro Stereo and soundboard

Stick to Your Guns- Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca 9/11/16 Multicam Hardcore Live Complete Concert

I wasn’t planning to post this one today, but the Metallica upload was blocked and even though the copyright-bot misidentified the source of the songs, I am not going to fight them about it.
Instead, here is another one from 2016 that I never posted for some reason. It might be due to the audio- that sounds like stock camera audio- I might have forgotten my mic. It still sounds ok.

Equipment used: Not sure, but looks like 2 Canon HFG30 and 1 Canon HFG10
