Bad Religion- Senator Theater, Chico Ca. 10/8/23 4K UHD Master w/ Schoeps Audio

After attending/video’ing a lovely wedding last Sunday, I headed over to Chico to see Bad Religion. I know I totally bagged on this venue back in March and proclaimed that I will NEVER return, but I figured that I could get my camera in to this show vs. the Fox in Oakland… and I was right. And the sound wasn’t that bad this time!
The show was packed- it must have been sold out or close to it. I realized that I was way too close to the stage when the show started, which is why you see a lot of obstructions. It gets a lot better later on- I was able to back up, and the venue floor slopes up! Perfect!
The crowd was crazy- from Jay Bentley’s comments, it sounds like BR rarely comes to Chico and they were surprised at the enthusiasm. “Chico, who woulda thunk?”- Jay.

Bad Religion- Musink Festival, OC Fairgrounds, Costa Mesa Ca 3/21/15 HD Multicam? Full Complete Show

Here’s a video for today’s “On This Day in History”.
I am a little confused with this one. My old friend Ryan McVay from Vulture Video sent us a couple of camera angles from this show to edit together, and this disc is labeled as a multicam. However, this looks like only 1 of the 2 camera angles. Maybe the other disc of this show in my collection was the multicam. Wouldn’t be the first time I made a mistake labeling discs. Oh well- I am taking the kids snow skiing today and leaving soon so this is what we all get.

Bad Religion- Riot Fest, May Farms, Byers Co. 9/21/13 HD Master w/ Neumann Mic Audio Live

This was a crazy story. This was the final day of Riot Fest and storms were threatening all day. During FLAG’s set, the sky got super dark and the winds got a bit dangerous so they told us all to leave the venue. I was separated from “Anonymous” and could not find him or the car anywhere. I wandered around forever and finally found it. When I got there, he had been waiting a while and said that he was going to crawl under the car if a tornado formed. Haha, sorry about that.
So we waited for over an hour for the show to resume. In my excitement of getting back in, plus wanting to do a good job for my friend Agelos (BR is his favorite band), I totally screwed the video up. I zoomed in way too often, and the pan and zoom was so active it gives you motion sickness. Sorry about that.

Bad Religion- Goofy vs Regular fest, Etnies Skate Park, Lake Forest Ca 10/4/08 xfer f/ MiniDV Master

Here’s another one from Guerin Myall’s motherlode of tapes he dropped on me a few months ago. I have to say, he was using superior equipment back in the 90s and 00’s to film these bands and these are some of the best vids from that era. No wonder he had so much of his worked released on video. Unfortunately, the audio on this one is a bit distorted.

I asked him about this one because it looks like it is snowing, but that would be impossible for Lake Forest. Must be bugs flying around.

Bad Religion- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amphitheater L.A. 12/11/93 DAT Master Punk covers

This and the Belly sets are probably my favorite sets of the 1993 concerts. There is nothing acoustic about this show- it kicks ass! includes multiple xmas classics and the hear n aid hit “Don’t they know it’s Christmastime”. It’s a fun listen

Over the next few weeks (weekdays), I will be posting sets from the 1993 Almost Acoustic Xmas. On the night of Dec 11th, I was driving to grab dinner for the family and I turn on KROQ and I hear that they were broadcasting the entire show live on the radio! I listened to KROQ regularly back then and did not recall any advertising for the broadcast. I hauled ass back home and grabbed a DAT and started recording. I was broke back then, so I have these sets scattered over about 5 DATs. I think I only lost a couple minutes of one set due to tape change- General Public. I even was able to edit in the interviews from other sections of the tape. The Blind Melon interview is a sad foreshadow of their future.
Anyway, hope you enjoy these. I became a fan of at least a few of these bands through this broadcast.

Bad Religion- Phoenix Theater, Petaluma Ca 1/2/91 xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced

It’s Friday! Man, what a long week. Here’s a pretty cool one from Arica Pelino’s suitcase of goods- a Bad Religion set that she filmed back in 1991. The audio is really good on this for a camcorder- like I mentioned before, some of those old VHS camcorders had solid mics. The camerawork and lighting get much better about 7 minutes in. BR fans will dig it. Thanks Arica!
