R.K.L.- Malt Soda Bash, The Pound, San Francisco Ca 2/28/04 xfer Band Archive VHS Tape Rich Kids on

Here’s one from Barry Ward’s collection of VHS tapes. I think these are 1st gen from the master. This tape was in 6 hour mode and it still looks good, so it has to be 1st gen or better.

Jason is looking good here. He was a little sloppy(but hilariously entertaining) in the shows the following year, but he looks good at this one. I wish the audio was better.

Another Malt Soda Bash set from Barry Ward’s collection. There is only one more band left on the show- any guesses? You’ll find out in a month or so.

This must have been a rare show at the time. Setlist dot fm has a gap in activity for the band between 2001-2007, even though they apparently toured the USA in 2004. Odd.

Features Jimmy Crucifix (Jaycee Francis Schmith) on guitar- very cool!

China White- Malt Soda Bash, The Pound, San Francisco 2/28/04 xfer f/ 1st gen VHS tape Punk Frontier

Here’s a cool rare one from Barry Ward’s collection. China White was one of the early hardcore bands- they released an EP on Frontier records in 1981 and then not much else (that I am aware of) until about 15 years later.

This show was part of Malt Soda’s label showcase. They released a limited edition live CD with the label in 2004, so they played this show. Pretty hard to find many performances from these guys.

Cell Block 5- Malt Soda Bash, The Pound, San Francisco Ca 2/28/04 xfer from band archive VHS

Here’s another one from Barry Ward’s cool collection of VHS tapes. Last month, you got the Crosstops from this show. This time, it’s Cell Block 5. This might be a hint of what is coming next month…
This one goes out to Dave Dalton who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. If you have the ability, please contribute to his gofundme. He is not slowing down, Screaming Bloody Marys are playing here in Sac next weekend! That’s inspirational.

Crosstops- Malt Soda Bash, The Pound, San Francisco 2/28/04 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape RKL Rich Kids

Time for some video from Barry Ward’s collection. There is a tape in there that just said “Malt Soda Bash” with no other info. It ended up to be a tape with (I think) the ENTIRE show in 6 hour speed. Expect more from this show from Barry’s collection in future posts.
Barry headed the Crosstops, playing guitar and lead vocal duties. Ah, you know what, this is a better description (taken from a description of their album): The CROSSTOPS are a San Francisco based Truckpunk band with members of THE BARFEEDERS, RICH KIDS ON LSD, GWAR, WHISKEY AVENGERS (to name a few). This is by far the greatest-White-Tr*sh-Partymachine since KISS and HANK III.
