The Lewd- Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco Ca 6/29/80 xfer from unknown gen audio cassette Punk

When I have time, I usually check the tape list on the night before posting an on This Date in History. I saw this one and realized I had not posted anything to the Mab FB group in a while. I go to look at the tape number… and it is tape #1 out of about 4,000 cassettes! THAT was a pain in the ass to pull out, let me tell you..
I figured that this was going to be a kinda typical awful quality tape, like most early punk shows were. But no, this one isn’t bad. Clearly taped by someone who had decent gear. I was able to EQ out a lot of the midrange noise and distortion to make it actually listenable!
I don’t know who recorded it- please let me know if you have any idea. I am pretty sure it wasn’t Terry hammer as he usually did board tapes.

Fall of Christianity- Stockton, Ca. 6/20/80 w/ Gary Young from Pavement

Here is one for all the Pavement fans- Terry O’Reilly posted yet another EARLY punk video from Stockton. He said he actually filmed these with an old security camera- what is shocking to me is not the (as expected) video quality, but the audio. Those old cameras almost always had good mics.

Anyway, this will be of interest to Pavement fans, as Gary Young is on drums here. Opening for Dead Kennedys. The band also featured Brian Thalken (The Authorities) on guitar and Tharon Knight (Hot Spit Dancers, Prison Daddy) on bass and vocals

Thanks to Ken Doose for reminding me that this was posted, and for additional info about the band
