Fanny- Crest Theater, Sacramento Ca 5/22/23 FULL SHOW 4K UHD master Schoeps Audio Walked the Earth

OK, here it is finally. Sorry for the false start yesterday- I had to boost levels and I boosted them so much that I screwed up audio at the start.

Wow, what a fun event Monday night. Huge thanks to KVIE for hosting this- they know how to put on a party! The movie was shown first and then Fanny came out and played… for 80 MINUTES. I have been to these “movie and performance” things before, and the standard seems to be a quick 30min set. Nope, we got a full Fanny set. It was a BLAST! I talked Patti Quatro after the show and she said they were running on pure adrenaline, and this was the last (and best performance) of a screening/performance tour.

OK, on to the video. As usual, I had some issues. I figured that I would be able to get my camera and Schoeps audio setup ready while they rolled the credits, but the band hopped on stage and started playing pretty much immediately after the movie ended. It was dark and I was fumbling with the gear and I could NOT find my digitial recorder. I just plugged the mics into the camera and (thankfully) it turned out really great. Big shout out to Keith Krider for selling me these Schoeps mics. Could not love them more.

Turn it Around: The Story of East Bay Punk Q&A Session, Crest Thtr, Sacramento 9/1/17

The night after my birthday party at the Blue Lamp, the East Bay Punk movie played at The Crest. I got there late- wow, was it packed!
Being the completest nerd that I am, I videotaped the Q&A session. Sorry for the audio quality- I forgot to plug my mic in, and then once I did, the audio is too low. Wait for the volume to drop and then turn it up, if you want.

Richard Thompson- Crest Theater, Sacramento Ca 11/8/15 Digital Audio Master-CD Complete Schoeps

For today’s On This Date in History, I pulled one that Anonymous recorded. Richard played 2 hours and 20 min! first 7 songs solo acoustic, 2nd set as an electric trio w/Davey Faragher and Michael Jerome. The last time I saw Davey, he was wearing a beautiful sequined dress, playing bass for Cracker at Cattle Club.

Strange Party- Crest Theater, Sacramento Ca 10/15/15 HD Master Rode Videomic Pro Stereo Horror Punk

Ah yes, this is why the on This Date in History thing is so much fun. I filmed this 10 years ago and then never posted it. The Strange Party were one of my favorite Sacramento bands. Still bummed they broke up AND double bummed that Justin pulled his music off Bandcamp. Now I can’t stream what I bought. Pull your music from Spotify, but not bandcamp! C’mon.
EDIT: Justin just messaged me and let me know that his music is BACK! It was pulled down for a re-release on a new label that didn’t materialize. Check out bandcamp for their stuff. I will add links in comments.

The Crest had this series where bands would play in the lobby/lounge area before the showing of a classic movie. They were playing a horror movie on this night, so who better to ask than this band? I didn’t recall the lighting being so good, this turned out great.

I think my friend Anonymous audio taped this with his schoeps as well.

Henry Rollins- Crest Theatre, Sacramento Ca 3/5/03 Xfer from DAT Master Complete Show Spoken Word

Here is one that I actually taped for This Date in History. Since Brian McKenna didn’t put on this show, I had no access to Hank so no soundboard this time. Listen to the 1997 show if you want that sweet soundboard quality.
This one came out pretty nice. Probably one of my better coresound mic recordings. It is super dynamic, so turn it up but be ready for bursts of volume.
It’s almost 3 hours long, so buckle up.

Equipment used: Coresound battery box binaural mics with bass rolloff and a DAT (probably a Sony D7)
Transfer equipment: Sony PCM-R500 and M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card

7 Seconds- Sammies, Crest Theater, Sacramento 3/28/01 xfer from cassette master KVMR-FM Bcast

Here’s a fun one for today’s On This Date in History. I got this from Jim McLain, but it sounds like it was mastered on CDR, then dubbed to cassette, then back to CDR. Interesting lineage.
The funny thing about this one (to me) is the fact that it is only 6 minutes long because KVMR couldn’t bleep out the FCC banned words, so Kevin just announces real quick before “In Your Face” that there are bad words in the song, and KVMR takes it away. Haha, made it 6 minutes into the set before you get more typical KVMR fare. Classic. Oh wait, there is a “bullsh*t” in Slow Down a Second- snuck one in there!
Speaking of 7 seconds- if you missed the announcements, they are playing Sacramento and 924 Gilman in May. I don’t think either have sold out yet, but the last time they were in Sac, they sold out Harlow’s… so get yer tickets and don’t beg Brian to get you in if you slept on ’em. /s
Sounds like Eric Bianchi announcing the band. Tom from Knockoffs on “One Big Guessing Game”

Misfits- Interview w/Danny Reynoso, Crest Theater, Sacramento 1/27/00

Everything is going to be late today, I needed to run a rebalance one the collections post and then my planned On This Date post ended up happening on July 4th, so I need to run a DAT to replace that one.

In the meantime, let’s share this one that Zoran sent me this morning. Coincedentally, I just saw Danny last night at the Pegboy show at Gilman.

This show was really well documented. I plugged my DAT into the soundboard and recorded the Groovie Ghoulies’ set, then was politely asked to GTFO with that thing before the Misfits came on. Luckily, the entire set was video’d and this interview exists.

This was an impromptu interview- they asked Danny to talk to Jerry about wrestling with very little notice. Way to pull it off!
