LOTS more to come here (Photos, Tape Lists, etc).. but for now, here are the amazing people who have sent collections to the Sacramento Music Archive for curation (in no particular order):
Anonymous 1 (my best friend, met in 1987, his audio improves a LOT of the old videos you see)
Anonymous 2 (Local promoter with HUNDREDS of local demo tapes and nationally known acts as well)
Arica Pelino: THE Definitive early Green Day collection. Plus she taped TONS more. Pure gold!
Barry Ward: RKL/Crosstops/Hotbox/GWAR and tons more beyond his own bands!
Bootleg Cowboys: The Premier Sac/bay Area arena taper in the 90s. Bought a bootleg video from The Undergound or elsewhere? It’s probably his.
Chris Eng: This is the guy who video’d just about ALL of the earliest 924 Gilman concerts (1987) and Dave’s Garage shows.. and we are just getting started with his collection.
Dal Basi: (Stockton/Sacramento legend, owns Phono Select record Store in Sacramento). Dal has local Sacramento and Stockton stuff that I have NEVER Seen before!
Dennis Newhall: Well Known KZAP DJ and Capital Public Radio host. He is filling what used to be a blind spot in Sacramento’s local live/demo tapes from the 70s. SO important.
Guerin Myall: HUNDREDS of master DV videos from all your favorite Santa Cruz/California punk bands.
Jason Ross: King of midwest punk tape trading. His whole collection is here- about 1000 tapes.
Josh Parten: 2010’s punk videographer who passed away last month. I digitized a bunch of his stuff.
Ken Doose (THE MAN for archival Sacramento Punk). He has more Sacramento stuff than anyone. Biggest challenge here is trying to prioritize what gets posted next!
Lizz Fisher: Host of Sacto Active Rock- THE ONLY community cable show to document the punk/metal/”alternative” music scene of the early 1990s! Deftones, Cake and so many more played.
Marshall Stax: Many DAT Soundboard master tapes from the early 90s. NOTE: MARSHALL has NOT given the OK to share.. yet.
Neil Werries: Documentarian of the late 90s alt.country movement,. HELP NEEDED with his collection, regarding IMPORTANT multicamera videos from Old 97s, Gourds, Silos, Jayhwaks and more! Reach out if you are good at time alignment.
Pat Wright: Yet another 924 Gilman legend. Pat filmed just about every band at Gilman from 2008ish to 2013ish.. literally THOUSANDS of sets. We are less than 1% done with his stuff.
Radley Hirsch: LEGENDARY 924 Gilman Soundman. I went to Radley’s place about 5 years ago and he shared his favorite recordings with me. Need to start posting these again.
Rick Sylvain/KALX Archives: All of the Friday Night Live shows and lots more from KALX’ archives. Cassettes, reels and video!
Robert Eggplant: The man who collected over 100 924 Gilman st. Soundboard Tapes. Almost fully digitized, we now have a lifetime supply of Eggplant posts.
Russ Gibb: Yes, the legendary Detroit promoter who started the Beatles’ “Paul is Dead” rumor- we have about 30 tapes from his collection.
Scott Davey/Iguana Studios: We are just digging into Scott’s collection- a lot of unheard 1970s recordings from Sacramento and SF venues.
Todd Nakamine: The man with the insider’s view into the record industry. So many rare archival VHS tapes, and he taped/photographs shows too.
Tony Passarell: Free Jazz Saxophone God that brought endless amounts of Sacramento musicians together. 500? tapes here of his.
Wayne VanDerKuil: My friend since the 80s, and the first person to really believe in the archive and lend his collection to me. He also happens to be the president of the Sac Music Archive nonprofit. Not only did he tape shows, but he took pictures back then. he is also Wayne of Stikky’s Wayne is BIG!
