This post got a bit long- TLDR version- Davis Music Fest is awesome and still happening today, so head on out if you get the chance.

Happy Fathers Day to all who celebrate. We are celebrating by having my 8 year old throw a fit over math practice. Lovely.
My friend Justin Cox came down from his home in Orcas Island to play a set at Davis Music Fest. Justin used to live in the Davis area before he moved up to Orcas 5 or 6 years ago. He was/is? in one of my all time favorite Sacramento area bands, The Polyorchids. So when he comes down here to play a rare set, you get your ass to the show, no matter what… and I still almost missed it. I always under estimate how long it takes to get all of this gear ready, even if it is a one camera job. Lens, body, mics, preamp, recorder, cable, Cards, batteries etc etc.
So I parked at 4:50 and he plays at 5. I barge in to the venue and say hi to Justin and he starts to play. It was then that I realize that everyone else has a wristband on, and I just walked in to the place like I owned it. Whoops. I apologized to Dave(DMF dude) and walked over to Delta of Venus to pay after the set. Haha. I appreciate that he was cool about it, as it would have taken 20min to get there and back.
Justin was playing in front of a storefront type window which made lighting a challenge, so I swung way over to the right to avoid the bright backlight. The PA hugging helped the audio a bit too.
Anyway, you get about half Routine Layup songs, which is Justin’s post-Polyorchids solo project, along with a few of the old “hits”.
Had a nice hang afterward with folks, nice to catch up with Justin and to meet Sol, who I work with (for work) on occasion.
I missed the first half of the first song due to user error. I do have audio of it.
